exercises to develop staccato?
on: July 15, 2006, 03:19:27 AM
I find that my left hand staccato is terrible to say the least.

Off hand I would say...Bach.
Play the little book Minuets.
If you can't play staccato after that, you never will.

What do you need exercises for? Just practice different touches on isolated notes, and experiment in your pieces. Listen to someone (recording or otherwise) playing staccato so that you have the sound you want in your ear, then just experiment until you get the sound you want.
Best,

Which pieces are giving you trouble? I think we need a little more info...chords, single notes, how fast? Maybe just take the pieces you are working on and make little exercises out of the problem spots.

Maybe someone can suggest a Scarlatti sonata...?

Depending on your level, you could try this little beauty by Anton Rubinstein. It is sometimes known as the "Staccato" etude.
Good for staccato and rather lovely at the same time.
