Any Piano teachers from Scotland around?
on: July 16, 2006, 06:56:04 PM
Hi Everyone,

I'm interested in corresponding with someone involved in the private teaching field in Scotland.  I currently live/teach in the midwest, USA, but am hoping one day soon to move to Scotland and continue my teaching career there.

Just returned from 17 lovely days over there, and this is the motivation for trying to emmigrate one day.  Most of my time was spent in the Highlands and Western Isles  and it didn't appear from my inquiries that private music lessons are nearly as prevalent there, as here in my area.  It's unclear if there's a market for private teachers.

Much more information can be provided via email regarding qualifications, etc but i'm looking to make a connection with someone involved in the field right now.

Thank you for your time, and feel free to respond initially here. I will send email after that.

That's partially because there aren't as many people living in the Highlands and Islands......and an increasing number of properties are owned as second homes (holiday homes) If you want good numbers you'd be better staying where you are and just visit on holiday, or if you do decide to move over here, basing yourself nearer the more major towns/cities.......eg Inverness, Fort William, etc.
I have a long waiting list but I live and teach much more centrally where there is higher demand for teachers.

Thanks for the reply, chocolatedog.   I'm not surprised what you said about the holiday homes, especially in the isles   While i was there, i heard many Scots complaining that the English were buying up alot of properties for that purpose.  As for the larger cities, i didn't care much for Glasgow [probably the greatest opportunity on the west?] but Inverness felt very comfortable, and similar in many ways to where i reside at the moment. [i much prefer your weather/climate, to this side of the pond].  I've got one super contact on faculty at RSAM who might be able to provide information, too.  Thanks again for taking the time to respond!

i thought this was a joke at first.  i want to go to scotland, too.  but, it was agreed that if we were to take the family - las vegas would be our international trip.  we're seeing the new eiffel tower across from the belagio (that is an italian hotel that reeks of money and fountains and good food, too).  u see, for me to take one trip to scotland would burn all the money the whole family could use to go to las vegas.  alas, las vegas has no scotland, that i know of.  i think i will propose to the city manager something akin to it.

please continue to tell us about scotland.  i want to go there so badly!  and, england and ireland.  the british isles properly - as alistair puts it.  tell us how it all works out in terms of lessons.  scottish people are so honest (at least that's what i think is supposed to be the case).  they probably blush when they make a mistake.  u'll know right away if they practiced or not.

Isn't the Belagio the hotel/casino that appeared in Ocean's Eleven? Brilliant film, if you haven't already seen it!!
Actually none of my pupils blush when they make a mistake!!! All I get is "But I could play it at home"!!!!!!
