Do they exist? If so, give me some.

Interesting post. I'd like to know if there are any writst exercises, since many times I end my practices with wrist pain. Then I realize "hmmm... my wrists have been ridiculously tight all this time", so I loosen them up, but usually a few days go by and I end up with the exact same problem over and over.

Greetings.

Arpeggios use the wrists. Do the arpeggios. I would also recommend some Czerny because his certain etudes just employ the wrists for the most part. I also do diminished 7th finger independance excercise and on the interval variation I need to have a relaxed wrist.

The best way to exercise/stretch wrists is in activities other than piano playing. Piano playing is just too mild for it to have any noticeable effect.

The best wrist exercises I came across are from the Japanese martial art of Aikido, and the Chinese martial art of Qui na. Google “aikido wrist exercises” and you will have access to hundreds of thousands of sites that discuss this subject, some with videos. Better still, enroll in your local Aikido club – or just drop by and discuss it with the instructor. S/he will be fascinated by your question and more than willing to demonstrate the wrist exercises to you.

To get a glimpse of what it is all about, have a look at these (almost random) sites:

Bernhard - your posts are always amazing, thorough, and insightful.
It is sad that I don't know of anyone that will demonstrate the proper wrist-related movements for me.  I am eternally screwed.

Question: What role does the wrist play in octaves?

When playing octaves, you must keep the hands and wrist from being tense. I know that much.
