Serious Bach
on: July 20, 2006, 07:46:48 PM
Hi, I'm putting my new programm together, and -off course- I need a Bach. I will play a prelude and fugue, but I'm looking for a not to difficult, slow, and very serious Bach. If you get what I mean. Bach is not my favorite composer and such a Bach will help me motivate to play it I think. If anyone could help me, let me know. :)
Currently learing:
- Chopin: Ballade No.3
- Scriabin: Etude Op. 8 No. 2
- Rachmaninoff: Etude Op. 33 No. 6
- Bach: P&F No 21 WTC I

In my ears, P&F no. 8, 10, 16, 18, 22,  from WTC I sound the most serious, although actually everything of Bach is serious to me.

How about Prelude and Fugue no. 14 in f# minor from book number 2 of the WTC?  The fugue is quite regal sounding, the prelude is rather pretty, and they're not very fast at all.  The fugue is 4 pages, but it's only 3 voices and rather spacious.  The prelude is 3 pages.  It takes about 6 minutes to play all together.  As you can see that's averaging almost 1 minute per page, so it's moderately slow.

The G minor P+F from WTC I are pretty serious.  The Prelude is beautiful, very tender and sad, and not difficult.  The Fugue (4 voices) is harder but not too bad really.  Only 2 pages long as well, the hardest part is the middle of the second page as I recall.  It has a commanding subject, if I can put it that way, and is quite impressive on the whole.
A and B the C of D.
