The Quiet Revolutionary of the Piano – Fauré’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

In the pantheon of French music, Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924) often seems a paradox—an innovator cloaked in restraint, a Romantic by birth who shaped the contours of modern French music with quiet insistence. Piano Street now provides sheet music for his complete piano works: a body of music that resists spectacle, even as it brims with invention and brilliance. Read more

Any transcribers?
on: July 22, 2006, 02:37:37 PM
I'm lousy at playing by ear, so if anyone would try transcribing something for me, It'd be AWESOME!
This is very advanced jazz, so I don't expect you to manage to transcribe it correctly. Only the chords would be greatly appreciated :-)

So, does anyone want a challenge?

I might be able to help.

What format(s) do you have the music in, and what instrument(s) is the music you have written for?

Do you have a midi file of the piece?

Also do you have the name of the piece and/or the composer?

That's great!  :D I only have the file in mp3-format.. Is that OK?
This musicpiece is piano only, with vocals of course.

Give me your email, and I'll send you the piece.
It's Georgia on my mind, but not one of the "published" versions. It's a performed live, in a competition for young musicians.

Thanks alot! I wish you good luck!

I said I might be able to help.

If you had it in midi format I might have been able to help you . I can't do anything with an mp3 file.  Sorry.

Maybe try going through these to see if you can find something similar to what you have.

By the way.  Once you get it into a midi file you can convert it into sheet music yourself.

Just download the free Midi-to-sheet music program at the bottom of the midi search engine page.

That's not the program I use so I'm not sure how well it works.  The program I use is no longer available.  My program converts the midi file into sheet music and from there I can edit it in numeous ways including changing instruments, keys, and individual notes etc.  So I can do a lot of cleaning up after I convert it.  I have no idea what the free download progam is like.

Let me know how you make out and GOOD LUCK!

So this program transcribes the musicpiece itself? Doesn't sound believable to me, but I'll try it :-) Thanks!

Well, personally I don't you're going to succeed in converting an mp3 file into a midi file.  If you find a way to do that let me know.  There is a program at the bottom of that midi search engine page that converts wav files to midi supposedly.   I'm not sure how well that actually works as I've never tried it.

Moreover, if there are vocals on the mp3 file I don't know how they would be converted into a midi.  Seems to me that any such conversion would end up being a jumbled mess.

Now if you had a pure solo piano mp3 that might convert to a wav and then to a midi???

I'm not all that familiar with all the possibilities.  I just convert midi files to sheet music.

Maybe someone else can offer you more information or better methods.  I'm just offering my own limited knowlege for whatever it's worth.  8)

Hmm... Maybe there's a program where you can reduce the vocals or something? This sounds very complicated! Maybe I'll just try to play it by ear  :-\ Unless there's someone else out there who wants to play a beautiful jazzpiece  ::)

It is not possible to convert from mp3 or wav to midi as far as I know.  There is software out there, but it doesn't work.  Best option is to get a paper and a pencil and do it by ear.

Oh.. Okay then. Does anyone know how to remove vocals from an audiofile, so I can at least hear what is played?

Ok I listened to the piece.  I'm not into Jazz piano I deal almost exclusively with classical.  But the piano in your mp3 file just sounds to me like chords with improvised riffs between them.  Seems to me that if you just learn the chords and a few jazz riffs you could play something very similar on your own.

Here's the chords for the piece: Chords for Georgia on my Mind

There's a web page for transposing chords into differnet keys if you want to change the key, but I forget the link.  But this should at least get you started.

I have no clue how to get that mp3 file into sheet music.  The best I can offer is to try to find a similar jazz piano piece in a midi file and then convert that into sheet music to learn how to play riffs.  There should be jazz piano sites that tell you how to do that too.  I'm actually more into the violin so I can't help much with jazz piano.

Yeah, me too. I'm not creative, so I have to follow notes  :( But, I would like to learn to improvise too, so I think I'm going to give it a shot. But the chords were much easier than it sounded though.

Well thanks for all the help  :)

Here, I found a page with 101 Free piano Jazz Riffs.

They have the musical notation and you can hear each one played.  Learn all hundred and one of them and you'll have quite a bit to improvise with.

I might try learning one these each day myself just for fun.  ;)
