beautiful melodies from opera and musical theater

What are some of your favorites? I really like  L'amour Est Un Oiseau Rebelle from Carmen, the humming music in Madame Butterfly, and All I Ask of You and Wishing You Were Here from Phantom of the Opera.

Un bel di from Madame Butterfly has to be the most beautiful (in a romantic sense)piece of music ever written.  If it doesn't send shivers down your back, you have a heart of ice.  It Must be so and Make our Gardens Grow from Bernstein's Candide are both wonderful.  The Letter Scene from Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin is great.  Finally, The Carpet Crawlers and The Lamia from Genesis's The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway deserve mention.

i go for the whole experience, too, so musicals to me are just as great as opera.  i like the combo of acting, dancing, and music which seems freer in musicals than opera.

i love bernstein, too, and west side story
oklahoma
roy rogers - is that the name of musical - anyway - i saw the one starring roy rogers and loved it.  it was about his life.
kismet

as for opera:

cavilleria rusticana - intermezzo
la boheme- your tiny hand is frozen
madame butterfly - many quaint arias
carmen - flower song

i guess it all depends on the singers, too.  we had a fantastic baritone singing at the mann for the 9th symphony.  have to find his name.  anyway - he was one of those 'drop your jaw' voices.
