Icon that looks like an old timey thigamabub
on: July 30, 2006, 12:02:54 AM
Sometimes when I come to the forum, opposite the Student's Forum, there's an icon that looks like a metronome from olden times.

Whatever it is (if it isn't a metronome, what is it?), why is it there — semi-occasionally? I.e., sometimes it's there, sometimes it isn't.

Is it a coded message for those in the know to evacuate Piano Street immediately? Is it a sign the end times are upon us? Is this when Dubya is surreptitiously reading our posts?

Please. I'm desperate to know.  ::) ::) ::)

That means you have seen the new posts in the students forum, but not the one in it's child board, about theory.

Thank you, Kasaa

It's hard 'to believe I have ever read all the new posts in the Student's Forum, but if the Metronome says I have, it must be right.

Just opening the forum will do, you do not actually haven to open topics for it. The metronome will go away when you open the theory board, and go back to the main forum page.

Your name (Kasaa) seems to have some vague association. Is it similar to the P2P site where people swap files semi-illegally?

Is it short for a melon, of some kind - Kasaaba?

Or is it the start of a the Spanish tune...

Kasaa-rita no te questas a dormir
Sin comprer un cucuruchu de mani

Persona will have a fit with the mangled espanol!!!

Only being - or trying to be - funny, Kasaa. Please don't take offense.

Hahaha, I came up with this name four years ago when Kazaa was still popular. Kassaa is a combination of Kazaa and Kassa, the latter one is Dutch for pay-desk. I really detest the name now, but everyone knows me with this name everywhere, so I will not change.

I always wondered what that blue thing was all about... but now to the important stuff: I'll finally get to correct barnowl!!!

1) "Questas" does not exist. I belive you meant "acuestes"
2) "Comprer" doesn't either. It's "comprar"
3) And finally, if you were trying to say "cucurucho de mani", I'm not entirely sure you know what that means, but it would be some sort of peanut ice-cream cone (which I'm not sure is available in the market... personally, I've never seen one). That's three mistakes in two lines. ;D

And one more thing: I still use Kazaa (the new version called "Kazaa Lite Resurrection"), it's awsome! But not for music though, if you want to download music (absolutely) illegal, the best ones are Bit Torrent and SoulSeek (they have everything you ever knew existed). Kazaa if for other sort of things... you know what I mean ;)

The first point I would like to make - and very politely - is that I don't even pretend to be a Spanish-speaker. I was quoting (well trying, anyway) from the lyrics of El Manisero, as sung by a guy you never heard of: a Cuban named Abelardo Barroso.

I never saw the lyrics written down. So I spelled them phonetically. Poorly, it turns out. In my defense, Barroso was black and sang in a heavy Black accent. But I absolutely loved his voice and delivery.

So, if you don't mind, could you please type the Spanish lyrics out and post them where I'll run into them? Please? (I don't know how to say 'pretty please' in Spanish, but if I could, I would.)

Second, Kazaa. I used to try downloading stuff from there, but gave up on it. Not sufficently computer sophisticated.

Third, and last, did you see my post where I was looking for an intermediate piano score of La Paloma? Nobody responded. Do you know of one?

Fourth - and really last, Name a Tango DVD you think is tops. I saw Assassination Tango, and although the story was nutso, I was knocked out by the dancing. Did you see it? Was the dancing actually good?

Yeah, I did see that post of yours asking for that "La Paloma" score, and not getting a single response in like a month or so... I couldn't help but think "How pathetic!!!" (sorry). Unfortunately, I don't have that score either. Tough luck.  :'(

Now, if you want to know about tango, I'm not the right guy to ask. Belive it or not, I don't care that much for Tango (as you may see, I'm some sort of americanized Argentinian (but still, I don't care for American music either)). All I know about Assassination Tango is what I saw on that Simpson's episode (if, indeed, it was the same movie... I'm not sure). But you should search for a translation of "Siglo 20 Cambalache" (that is, if you haven't done so already). The lyrics are very interesting.

And finally, concerning the lyrics of "El Manicero", let me tell you: this was the first time in my life when St. Google was unable to find me an answer of such nature. Having witnessed something like this, one doesn't know what to belive in any more. Anyway, I'm downloading it with SoulSeek. I'm waiting in line (currently number 631). But keep your hope up. As soon as I get it, I'll transcribe you the lyrics (maybe with a translation to English, if I have the time).

Persona - understand off the top that I'm a 72 year old grandfather - of 2 gorgeous 9-month old identical twin boys.  I'm happily married and will never say anything to you I wouldn't say before a priest - well, at least a fairly modern priest.  :)

Just so we're square on that.

I would be delighted with the Spanish lyrics, even happier if you also provide the English translation.

And I'll see about a translation of "Siglo 20 Cambalache"

Thanks.

WHAAAT??? :o :o :o I can't belive it!!! I'd always pictured you as a 16 year old (don't ask me why). Still, I didn't get what you were trying to say with that whole priest thing...

Good news: I've got the song (but not the time to transcribe it right now. I'll get to it)

I thought you were a female. But obviously, you're not. Sorry for the mistake. :D :D :D

By the way, I saw a Penaut Vendor lyric with cucuruchu in it.

And if a peanut vendor is un Manisero, why isn't mani a peanut?

Mani does mean peanut. But there's no such word as "cucuruchu". It's "cucurucho" 100%.

And I suspected that you thought I was a female... I still don't know how you found out I was a fellow.

The way you worded your recent messages, referring to yourself as one of the guys. Something like that. But when you first came here, you were into not doing trills, and combined with what I thought was your diffident writing style, I pegged you for a gal.

I sincerely beg your pardon.

Now, about cucuruchu. I would swear on a stack of biblias that Abelardo Barroso sings cucuruchu in his rendition of El Manisero - which by the way, is the best in the universe, though I have heard only his.

I'm tempted to make a copy of the CD and sending it to you. PM me your address and I might do it, just to see you squirm!  :D

LOOK WHO CAME BACK FROM THE GRAVE*!!!

About those lyrics... I lost the song, so I guess I owe you the transcription. Anyway, it's good to say hello once again.

*Interesting: Coming back from the grave is a rather poetic way to say this, since the reason for my long absence was a temporary job my pearents got me. It's not literally death, but almost ;)

Good to have you back, Persona.

What was your job? Since your mom got it for you, I hope it wasn't doing housework.
;D ;D ;D
