Charles Klindworth - Chopin
on: August 01, 2006, 03:56:19 AM
I happen to have this edition and is really really old, really amazing and it even has a few pages of fountain pen writing in the back. In french, english, and stuff. I guess its been used for 4 generations.
What you guys think

Dear Kaiwin:
What you have in hands is a piece of gold of music history. Klindworth was one of those figures of musical life that, although not famous, was deeply related to the masters of his own time. For instance, he had a close association with Wagner, was a friend of Tchaikovsky (to whose music Liszt was introduced by him), and so on. Furthermore, he was a brilliant pianist (there are elogious commentaries about his performance of Liszt's Sonata), editor and composer as well.
Two remarks: 1) I guess that his first name is Karl (I don't think a German of the 19th century would like to be refered as "Charles"...
); 2) I don't know this very edition (part of a complete edition of Chopin works), but you shall have some caution with this old sources, 'cause sometimes they're not the most proper ones (due to modifications of the original text).
Anyway, take care of this family treasure. Best wishes!
