start working out now!  of course, i know nothing of 100 pushups.  but, i think once you learn to do that then they have to be one handed.  even chaplains have to think quick and run fast.  of course, you could put your bible in a pocket over your heart and it might do double duty.

get lots and lots and lots of sleep.

now.  about the chaplain part.  you're going to have to work out there, too.  you know, practice on people in a hospital somewhere.  go to a veterans hospital and see what kinds of comments really help people.  i'm afraid i'd say all the wrong things.  'it'll get better.'  'don't worry about it, it was just a leg.'  really, i think the best thing sometimes is to be utterly quiet.

Whoa, I don't think I could ever do 150 push ups.  Gah.  I think I can do maybe 25 if I really try.  I can run 2 miles in 16 minutes and 24 seconds though and I can do one mile in 7.5 minutes... A friend of mine who is a teacher said that in his track class he once had an EIGHTH GRADER who could run a 4-minute mile.

Don't you have to be able to do a couple hundred sit ups too?

boliver, you must be really strong in the gut, too.  sometimes i get on the sit-up machine as a sort of joke for my son.  the board is at an angle, though, with head down slightly.  it makes it much harder.  i do half sit-ups.  he makes me laugh and it's even worse - because he can do at least 20 in a row.  and he sits at the computer a lot.

used to be in top shape.  now, my legs are pretty strong but the middle takes a while to get toned.  usually, if i bicycle all summer, then by the end of the summer i've got a waist again.  but, this time.  boo hoo. i have aslight waist.

I stil have somewhat of a gut. I guess I never cleaned up my diet good enough. I am hoping that boot camp will give me that coveted six pack.

I am hoping that I will get into such a good shape that when I get out of all of my training (which is approx. late march early april of 07) I can attempt to break the world record of push ups in a year. It currently stands at 1.5 million and change. If I strive to get 5000 a day, I will have 1.8 million and change done in a year.

I decided to find out how many sit ups I can do in an hour and had something unexpected happen to me. I completed 400 in 36 min., but I developed a terrible case of rug burn on my bum. It got so unbearable that I couldn't continue. I was hoping to get at least 600. now I can't hardly sit. LOL!!!!

Think about it, you'll be spending about 2 hours a day doing pushups.  Does that make sense to you?

perfect sense. I have sat at a piano for 4 hours a day just so I could play for myself. Now I will spend two hours a day and get a world record.

rug burn.  ahahahah.  you don't get it quite as much as when you put your feet under the couch.  next, you have to learn to refine quick counting. the army doesn't allow counting by tens, probably.  or, fives.  you have to learn to count regularly 1,2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10.  and, probably like the navy seals - you'll have to learn the shortcuts from others.  appearing to shake uncontrollably from hypothermia, and stuff like that.  in the middle east, it might not work so well.  also, just remember, one good shot in the knee and your home free. you can even do it yourself.

I wish you the very best!  Music was my best emotional outlet during my years of military service, and hopefully you will too.
