Must Hear Chopin
on: August 22, 2006, 03:27:28 AM
Hello,
I have never liked Chopin as much as Rachmaninoff or Liszt, and thus have never sought out any of his works other than the etudes. However, recently I have begun to like him tremendously and would like recommendations on any of his must-hear pieces and any of your favorite pieces by him.

thank you.

I think you should get a little taste of everything.  He wrote more mazurkas than anything else, so definitely get a listen to some of them.  Once you delve more into him, you'll want to learn it all!

 Dear Mouse:
Jre is right: listen to everything by Him, and also do play a comprehensive selection of his music, including at least one piece (or a pair) of any genre.
By the way, had you listen to the Preludes? Chopin at his most, in my humble opinion.
 Best wishes!

As already mentionned, all his sets of pieces are worth hearing. However, my most favourites are Ballades N.2 and 4, Fantaisie in F, Barcarolle op.60.

My favourite Chopin pieces are Ballades 1 and 4, scherzo 4 and grande polonaisse brilliante. But basically everything he wrote is brilliant.
