Why is it expected of women? Why are they encouraged to be a "house wife"? This tradition has been geared since the beginning of humanity. It is in the nature of all animals; women nurse, men work. Not all animals, but some. ;). Joking aside, if a woman doesn't want to be a house wife, no one is stopping her.

Male lion don't do anything. The female hunts, feeds, cares; the male eats, eats, eats, and burps. Well occasionally he roars. The males have a disadvantage in hunting because of their mane. Makes them visible.

If it's not about money then I'd rather not work

I would do it if any woman would be my wife, earn the money in necessary quantity and not call me a loser for not having a job.

Well you see, a man who becomes a house husband is considered a "loser", yet people are suggesting that being a housewife is something young girls should aspire to?

Anyhow how did this thread get from celebrities to gender politics?  :P

Apart from feminists, nobody is considering a housewife a loser. That's where the whole thing is f***ed up. I'd love to be a house husband, as far as my lion dreams seem difficult to come true  ;D.

haha not all of us buddy  ;) too much time is wasted on housework and if you're busy you learn how to streamline.

Ironing, for example. what? I have heard of people who iron tea towells and undies.  :o  :o

My son first set eyes on an ironing board at the age of 7, and had to ask what it was.

I wouldn't consider a housewife a loser. I just think it's sad that some women don't want a life of their own, and that they don't think they can make a mark on the world. Spending day in, day out cooking and cleaning for your family is no life.

But someone has to do the housework - whether paid for or not - because it has to be done by soneone. A paycheque at the end of having done it doesn't make it much less of a chore, does it?

That is not easy nowadays, coz too many women think they are equal.

I had trouble with my last girlfriend, coz she always used to start the housework during Home & Away. I mean, just how insensitive is that. In addition, i often had to wait for my tea when i got in from work, which is just not good enough.

The female race have a lot more rights than they used to. For instance, you have now got the vote and you can even walk through the Long Room at Lords.

Do you really need any more.

Mein Herz (not Thalberg - Herz) bleeds (or should that read "bleedz"?)...

Well, the latter's simply not cricket, is it? (but then nor was the recent Pakistan incident - what ws that? - something about tampering with balls? - er, perhaps I've just inadvertently returned to your topic in a roundabout way...). That said, however, who really wants to walk that particular gangplank?

Do you really need any more.
Or "Who could ask for anything more?", as the immortal George Gershwin more succinctly and elegantly put it...

It would be of no interest to any Scots.

Incedently, i have been warned for ball tampering, but it was not during a cricket match.

Exactly; you have picked up on my implied meaning when referring to this, then.

Does anyone besides me get sick of the so-called celebrities foisted on us by pop-culture?  The Hilton women, American "idols", silly dressed sports stars, tv personalities, etc. Give me a break!

Well if I were forced to watch perhaps. I think to myself that these men and women who are successful on these programs and make themselves financially secure are just being sensible. Abi Titmus for example, who if everyone thought being a nurse was so good compared with what she does now should have paid her millions to be a nurse. But we aren't interested in nurses, except as bleeding hearts.

Sports stars are usually very talented.

But I generally don't buy the papers they are in nor do I frequently watch different TV programs so I rarely see them not enough for it to bother me.

Evidently lots of people watch those programs, buy the records and enjoy sports. Thus they pay for those papers etc so there is a need being met.

OTOH, men and women that do jobs and roles that are arguably more noble / important where perhaps I pay for them I am not willing to pay more for those services to make those jobs more attractive than, say, being a tabloid celeb. Are you?

If you aren't then you'll have to put up with men and women wanting to be celebs rather than something else - in fact you'll probably find quite a few people posting here who aspire to being a celeb with their piano playing.
