Mei-Ting in a documentary film
on: August 24, 2006, 03:12:14 AM
I go to the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival every year, and I just received this email today.  Should be a treat...
------------------------------------

FORT LAUDERDALE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
SELECTS CHOPIN FOUNDATION FILM
FOR 21ST ANNUAL FILM FESTIVAL OCTOBER 20 - NOVEMBER 12
*************
Live Performance by Mei-Ting Sun
featured in the film and winner of the
7th National Chopin Piano Competition in 2005
Event to Benefit The Chopin Foundation

(Fort Lauderdale, FL) August 21, 2006 - Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF) announced today that they have selected PIANISTS – DEFINING CHOPIN, to be featured during their 21st Annual event, October 20 – November 12.

The film, a breathtaking piece of musical entertainment, was submitted by The Chopin Foundation of the United States, which hosted the National Chopin Piano Competition in Miami, Florida, March 5 - 13, 2005; the only major music competition in the United States open exclusively to American pianists between the ages of 17 to 28.   The winners of this competition participate in the International Chopin Piano Competition, the oldest and the most prestigious piano competition in the world, set in Warsaw, Poland.

PIANISTS - DEFINING CHOPIN is the 90 minute documentary that follows the four winners of the 2005 competition, during their 30 grueling days of competition, as they represent the U.S. at the 2005 International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw.  Director of the film, Tomasz Magierski, comments “The audience makes the journey with them and experiences the individual highs and lows and the enormous psychological and physical toll they are required to endure.  We learn what being a pianist really means.”

The Florida Premiere of PIANISTS - DEFINING CHOPIN will be presented October 25, 6:00pm at Cinema Paradiso.  The evening will begin with a wine and cheese courtyard reception. Just prior to the film, Mei-Ting Sun will give a live performance on a Yamaha concert grand piano, a performance made possible by Piano Music Center, an authorized Yamaha piano dealer located in Coral Gables and Hollywood.

Mei-Ting Sun, who is featured in the film and won the 7th National Chopin Piano Competition in 2005, has performed around the world including New York’s Alice Tully Hall, where his performance of Ravel's Concerto in G was praised by The New York Times as a "stunningly fluid reading."  He has also been featured on WQXR Classical Radio as part of the “Young Artist Showcase” program and on NPR as part of the “Performance Today” program.  His recent appearances include concert tours of Spain, China and Japan, concerto engagements with the  Richmond and Winnipeg Symphonies, the National Spanish Orchestra, the Macau Orchestra, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, and the Boca Raton Philharmonic Symphonia. He will be performing in South Florida this Fall.

The film, PIANISTS - DEFINING CHOPIN, will directly follow Mei-Ting’s performance. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Chopin Foundation of the United States, a national not-for profit, organization dedicated to the support of talented young American musicians in their struggle for career recognition.

Locally, the Chopin Foundation is best known for its highly popular Chopin Festival, a series of free monthly concerts presented at the Broward County Main Library in Fort Lauderdale and at the Granada Presbyterian Church in Coral Gables.

TICKETS:  Price $ 25.00 per person. For advance tickets and complete film schedules
