Fingering for end of op 10/8
on: August 30, 2006, 01:31:14 PM
In the fourth last bar of Chopin's etude 10/8 there is a parallel RH/LH arpeggio running from the bottom to the top of the key bord (just before the final 4 chords).

I have the Cortot edition, and he suggests to use 1234, 1234, 1234, 12345 (RH) and, similarly, in the left 54321, 4321, 4321, 4321.

Certainly ideal from a pianistic point of view, but also quite risky I find, especially with respect to the LH.

Does anybody have another suggestion, which may be less "elegant" but safer?

Thanks.

For the L.H. I am using 5421 5421, etc., and for the R.H. 1245 1245, etc. Parallel fingering for both hands helps a lot, and also, this way both hands "feel" the position much better.

Never ever had a problem there.

Thanks a lot. Indeed, I now tried with 5421, 5421 in the LH. and it's much easier! Cortot "prescribes" (5)4321, 4321, 4321 (4th finger moving over thumb each time), which I find very uncomfortable.
