learning to sightread book???
on: September 01, 2006, 11:02:30 PM
Hi, i am trying to learn how to sightread but am trying to find a good book for it. If there is already a post about this just let me know. I have been using John w. schaum piano course but don't really think they are good for learning to sight read. In one lesson they go from being in the key of C with single notes, then the next lesson they are in Eb with lots of chords.
For learning to read for the guitar i have used The Modern Method For Guitar by Berkley and thought that book was great. They gradually introduced keys and chords and didn't use repetetive songs to do it.
I thought about using The Modern Method For Keyboard and was just wondering if anyone used it before, what they thought of it, or if they knew anything better before i got it.

RIchman's book is a must, I've improved my sight reading alot.
Also get alot of books for songs ,music standard and jazz.
And sight read those books 30 min a day at least and never repeat the same piece more than 2 times. Good luck!

Greetings.
30 minutes a day? That's a bit too much to devote to sighreading. Most of the time should be spent practicing and devote some 10-20 min to sightreading at the end of practice session.

oops I'm sorry, I didn't take in the amount of practice each of us do.
IF you practice 1 hour a day, thetn 30 min of sight reading is way too much!
I try to do 30 min for 4 hours of practice.
