How do these people post so much?
on: September 04, 2006, 12:28:31 AM
How do people like bernhard and pianistimo post so much? pianistimo on average has posted twelve times a day. bernhard has only (yes only) posted five times a day on average. Would someone care to explain how this is done?

i tend to speak off the top of my head and occasionally look in a book...thus i am able to keep up with bernhard.  not all my posts are serious.  if i took all the serious ones, they'd probably be more like 3-5 per day.

the reason i go on pianoforum so much is that it is addicting.

Greetings.

Bernhard probably has been here for a longer while than Pianistimo. That would explain the difference between the number of posts. Actually, Pianistimo has posted alot and she isn't that quite far away from Bernhard's number of posts.

I think Bernhard said somewhere that he will print off posts that he wants to reply to and will write up a reply in his spare moments during the day.

now there's some dedication, I'll tell you boy!

I'll explain why they post so much:  Pianoforum is addictive it's just like heroin or alcohol.  It give a aphrodsiacle feeling that if you avoid for too long, you go into withdrawls.

When Bernhard is "on," some mornings you can log in to piano forum and see at the top of every forum room, Author, bernhard bernahrd bernhard bernhard etc. Plus once he said he typed in Dvorak which is apparently much faster.

I figured out pianitismo's secret.  Whenever she answers a post or a question, she puts half - or less! - of her answer in one post.  Then she immediately posts another one with the remainder.  Gotcha, pianitisimo!  :-[  :(  ;)  ;D
Take a look.  See how many pianitisimo postings come in pairs!

Everyhting is addictive (eg, food and sleep - try to go without them ;))

Also the latest reserach has shown that everything is bad for you (which is why we eventually die).

Best wishes,
Bernhard.

What's also interesting is the "general stats" page which you can get after clicking on a user name.  Although bernhard and piantisimo have probably been posting now for ac ouple of years at least, the total amount of time they spent posting is nota ctually that much.  17 days for Bernhard, 42 for pianitismo.  Over the course of two or three years that is a blink of the eye!

it boosts how many times people read your thread.  yes, bernhard.  you are just as sneaky as i am by quoting your own threads.  yes.  i know all these tricks now by watching bernhard.  he's the master of his own world.  no doubt it's a fun one.

my world is now laundry.  i have piles of it.  people ask - how much practice do you do?  well, that's a really dumb question to ask someone who has to choose laundry/practice.  so i put in the laundry - run to the piano - plunk plunk (it desperately needs tuning and a regulating job - but all the money is gone due to school clothing).  then, i see a window needs washing.

the only way i can free myself from obsessive/compulsive foruming or housework is to get out of the house.  to go somewhere else to practice.

if i were to design the house again - i'd put the washer on the left and the dryer on the right of my piano.  maybe a table behind to fold it all.

seriously, we just had our laundry room 'closeted' by closet factory.  it is much more efficient.  there is a pole to hang freshly washed shirts so they don't get wrinkled.  cupboards, and on the right - separate bins for each person in the family to take their own clean laundry basket back to their rooms.  does anyone do this yet?  no.  i carry them all STILL after all this organizing.  i am stuck with duds for cleaners and putters awayers.

one other thing i REALLY like is my folding table.  they put a four stainless steel 3" round legged (non-folding - at my request) granite topped folding table that i can actually carry out of my laundry room and double as a buffet table if i wanted.  (don't tell).  with a tablecloth, who's to know.  and the  long table is a nice height.

so you don't think i'll make it to 100?  90 something is ok with me.  (did you calculate this by some method you have? say the dvorph point system minus years of age?)  a lot of old geezers attribute God in some way to their long life...and i wouldn't be surprised since the fifth commandment to honor your father and mother comes witha  promise of long life.  not sure how well i've done on that one.  my mother and i used to fight all the time.  we don't anymore.  or, we pick our battles.  i usually let her win, now.

I cannot, of course, write with the authority of personal experience about the first item of which you write here, but I had thought that you had a washing machine and dryer either side of your piano to do the laundry (although quite why you have chosen to install your piano between these utilitarian appliances I have less than no idea, lest it be due to some fantasistic desire to develop the ability to give whiter-than-white performances...).

OK, so Bruckner was never a member of this forum and never posted to any other forum, but he did dedicate his final (albeit incomplete) symphony to God, so we should perhaps not be unduly encouraged by the admittedly substantial quantities of posts on this forum on the subject of God to assume that He is necessarily of no greater level of importance than might be suggested by the plethora of such postings....

It is the quality of posts that count, not the quantity.

If you look at the top 2 posters (Bernhard & Pianistimo), one writes sensible, balanced and well thought out posts, and the other babbles on about various topics in a random manner.

I've often wondered if pianitisimo was some sort of bizarre David Lynch creation, or perhaps David Lynch himself, pretending to be a suburban housewife who falls desperately in love with a bright screen that responds to everything she says!  But then I realized pianitisimo's posts are too weird, and she could never be David Lynch - she is one of a kind!

If you look at the general statistics for each member you see that over half of pianistimo's almost five thousand post's have been posted in the Anything but piano section of the forum. Bernhard on the other hand only has 1439 of his 5200 posts in the Anything but piano section of the forum. Just adding fuel to the fire :D

hey, i helped analyze the emperor concerto.  have to go see if anyone else responded to that one.  at the time it was just mua.  also, i have posted very important things in the miscellaneous thread.  (my next big one).

of course, occasionally, i will get a really bright idea and post something about my teacher, and west chester uni.  the classes there are really great!  it's not like i'm some dud off the street.

of course, when you are as good looking as i am - you don't have time to respond to everything.  ahahahahh (evil laughter back).  seriously, i just don't have time to do research papers for everyone.  but give me one good topic and i'll go research it.  i do like music/piano and it's just needing a little down time between laundry and a bit of piano.

i want organ lessons from mr. alan morrison.  how does one just call up anonymously a sort of famous organist and make it look like they will learn quickly.  i am a farily slow learner on the organ - but i want to learn to play it professionally and not be stuck doing one thing at a time.  the buttons, the pedals, the keyboard.  i want to be able to just sit at the 'cockpit' and stun people.  i want to work at 'lord and taylors.'  that's my other dream.  do you know they have a HUGe organ there.  i want to put my wierdness to use.

ok.  give me a question.  any question about piano.  i'll see if i can answer it to your satisfaction.  if need be, put the score in question on your thread so i can see it in case i don't have the music.

do i like christopher o'reilly.  yes.  yes, i listen to him EVERY week.  i always listen to 'from the top.'  this means that i am a musician.  of sorts.  anything about music or piano grabs my attention immediately.  yes.  i can get distracted.  but my goal is to perform regularly like a lot of other folks on here.

There's a classic example of double posting right there. One post and than three minutes later another. Why does pianistimo want you to ask a question? So the post number will rise! It's a consperacy I tell you ;D
