General resources for free sheet music
on: September 04, 2006, 03:00:10 AM
These are free, open-source projects funded through universities, foundations and the like.  The scores are either public domain or available under a copyleft license which allows for free use and distribution:

https://www.mutopiaproject.org - smaller archive including many of the more common pieces from Beethoven to Joplin.  These are all newly typeset scores edited by volunteers, small files, excellent print quality, and in general very carefully edited.

https://imslp.org - larger archive made from scans of editions whose copyright is now expired

Here's a site that offers 21 free classical piano scores and a download or DVD of 2,000 public domain piano scores for $10-$15.

Complete waste of money.

There is nothing there that cannot be downloaded for free.

Only 2 gigs as well.

How kind of you to offer such helpful advice. Please direct me to where I can get all 2,000 scores for free in one place at one time.

I'll return the favor: your link is down.

Smile, my friend. Life is short.

Firstly, there is a least 8gigs on e mule that can be downloaded for free and the old back up on gamingforce had over double that. Piano.ru is also massive.

With a little bit of searching, you can download complete Bach and complete Mozart for NOTHING from public domain editions. For those interested in especially in the 19th century you can go to    https://henseltlibrary.org/scores2.html  which has 100's of scores that can be downloaded for free.

The internet and E-bay are infested with crappy little sites like that, trying to profit from other peoles work and taking advantage of those that have yet to realise that they don't have to pay. The sooner they are wiped off the face of the Earth the better.

The link to my site was a joke, but i do intend to host an ftp site where members here can access my files for FREE.

Sorry if i appear to be rude, but i have problems with profiteering little nerds.
