Composers who specifically asked for trills to start on the principle note
on: September 09, 2006, 09:13:00 PM
According to Clementi, I think, all trills are to start on the auxiliary note. This is certainly the case with Baroque and early Classical-era music. However, what about Romantics? 20th century? Were there any that specifically stated that trills start on the written note and not the note above it?

Chopin told his students that the trill usually started on the upper note, even though his music is very rarely played that way today.
