dear zheer?
on: September 13, 2006, 09:03:15 PM
i am trying to get rid of my thread 'dear pianistimo' and will now turn all questions over to zheer.  he has a little more time than i do.  temporarily, at least.  that is, when his six hours of practice are over.  i think we should ask 'how do you do it?'  susan

I have also doubts about zheer's capacities. When I have practised intensively for six hours I am completely exhausted. All I can do after that is to munch my chäschüechli and surf around. Or watch tv. And zheer needs to work very hard for his next auditions I guess.

Dear Pianistimo,

Please don't leave the forum!

Without your goddess presence
it won't have the same decorum

We need the wisdom of your consonance
the ensemble of your presence
the impromptu of your interludes
with your polyrhythmic effervescence

Without your posts the forum has no beat
like a monotonic overture whose plot is incomplete

So please don't leave the forum
like a pianissimonic note
we need to hear your counterpoints
so we have something we can quote

;D ;D ;D

i feel like leucippus knows how to manipulate women.  it's all in the style.  he probably wears italian shoes, too.  and plays the piano like nobody's business.  these are a few of the reasons that i try to 'chill' and think about gardening.

About 6 hours a year for me.

At £100 an hour, you can't have too much.

That's not money well-spent for british products, indeed.

Zheer does slow-practice, that's why he lasts long  8).

I think him and Bernhard could finish their "bigots ranting guide to the UK" and tell us more about the fascists that forcefully vaccinate UK children, the UK parents that all drive porsches and never see their kids, the 3rd Reich University selection panels - "they're white, they're middle aged and they're keeping the upgraded polytechnics that way" :D

The winner of the best British pianist thread could do the soundtrack for the movie version.

i will refer the more difficult questions to you, if that is ok with you.  this is a sort of 'hotline' for people with questions.

right now, i'm trying to figure out a hotel in NYC between penn station and the Stock Exchange building that won't cost over $500. a night.  i've been told that 18% tax on hotel rooms is to be expected.  my son is going to have an aptitude test (the test alone is $600)at the Johnson O'Connor Research Foundation on the 18th floor of the Stock Exchange building at 39 Broadway.  but with parking at $30. ?  and hotel room at $215?  this is all adding up.  do you think it would be better to just get hit at a cross walk and stay in the hospital?

www.travelnow.com  was suggested to me.  i don't know what for. because, i don't know what i am looking for.  it was said that i am looking for hotel rooms with no shared-bathrooms.   and, that if a room is under $150. it is seedy.  also, to find out if i am making reservations with the hotel itself - or some obscure person who finds hotel rooms for people (after buying some of them already).

not sure what the question is anymore.  it gives me a heachache thinking about it.
oh.  yes.  and, i need to know if the hotel has free parking.  or, does this cost , too?

ok.  here's my question for any new yorker.  is 'regency inn end' a reputable hotel - or is it 'seedy.'  it is in mid-town.  'mid-town' is my decency marker.  but, i have no idea if there are good parts of mid-town and bad parts of mid-town - or even if mid-town is really mid-town or off over there - and i need to get them over here.

You'll be better served staying at a B&B, my friend has a joint down in the Village, if you're interested.

the carlyle hotel is $725.  this must be good according to the price.  do they give a lot of perks?  i mean - if you pay that much.  you just drive up.  a chauffer takes the car and parks it.  you immediately hand all baggage to the guy withthe cart.  and, without delay you are whisked into the hotel and given some sort of fancy label.  my son could be baron von swieten for instance.  then, you (without tripping) make it up the royal stairs and into a luscious room overlooking the entire downtown NYC.  there is a sunken hot tub.  a full stocked bar.  constant room service.

what need is there for an aptitude test at this point?  i say, take the $600. and combine it with the 200. spent on a cheap hotel and just have a good time in NY.

thank you!

oh.  and koji - i'm really serious about this.  where is 'the village?'  do 'the village people' live there?  how does one get to 'the village?'  a bed and breakfast sounds really super great!  will they take care of parking?  or is it a minimal fee.  actually, i'd rather spend on something like this anyways - no matter the cost.

hmm.  maybe i should go too.  my step-dad was going to take my son...but if i drive -then i can drop them off and go to the bosendorfer show room.

here's the itinerary:

try to drive into new york city through the correct tunnel (holland tunnel?)  is that how you spell it?

attempt to park.

walk or catch a cab to wall street (39 broadway at exchange place) and see if the elevators won't keep going up and down and never get to the 18th floor.  (do most people take the stairs?)  appointment at 1:15 and testing from 1:30 to 5:00 pm.

come back to parking - any way possible.

find hotel close by.  park/eat/sleep

return by 8:15 AM the following day
more testing until noon.  results given in afternoon.  check out of hotel (maybe earlier? but then, where to park)

drive home.

i am assuming that driving from collegeville, pennsylvania to nyc ny (manhattan) will be a three hour drive.  and, that if my step-dad leaves at around 7:30 - he'll make it to NYC at about 10:30 or 11:00.  spend an hour trying to find parking.  walk for 45 minutes (subway/bus/taxi).  stairs another 15 minutes.  basically about right?

how to practice 6 hours a day? well, some people started building up 3 hrs for a week, ten 4 the next then 5 etc. i did that for a while, but i stayed at 4 and kept feeling tired. so i lauched myself into the deep end and started doing 6 hrs every alternate day, and 2 hrs singing on that free day. that way i was allowed recovery time. i did feel smashed after 6 hrs, but after a while you can just do that 6 hrs a day. however, the crucial thing was to draw up a timetable including all the breaks, and assign tasks for each hour, so you are actually doing 6 proper hours of practice, as opposed to 6 hours of time wasting. also, it makes the mind work better if you know exactly what you are doing, how and where.

you might not agree with the 6 hours alternate days, but i think everyone has their own way of getting things to work.
