Yet ANOTHER College Audition Thread
on: September 14, 2006, 10:01:25 PM
Sorry.
The two things I'm certain on are my Classical sonata and 20thCentury/Choice work:
Beethoven Op. 22 (I just performed it and I think it's a good rare one)
Griffes Piano Sonata (I love this thing, another rare choice IMO)
I'm pretty certain on Liszt PE 6 as my etude, mainly because I love it and it covers a lot of technique.
Bach: I've Got No Clue. I'm looking at some P&F's. What are some good audition pieces?
I plan on auditioning at Curtis... I've just performed Chopin Ballade Op. 38 and figure on using that, but I need another Chopin piece that contrasts; I'm considering Berceuse but it's tough to choose because the Ballade covers the "two contrasting tempos" that they want.
So...?

Oooh..Ballade at Curtis...doesn't sound like a smart idea
Seriously, the Ballades- all 4 of them- have been played into the ground, dug up, and then played into the ground again. I love them, but everybody will be playing them. Do they require 2 Chopin pieces? Or 2 Romantic pieces?
Beethoven and Griffes, fine. Actually, better than fine. At least you're not playing Pathetique or Tempest, and those sonatas will really show off your talent.
As for Bach...Avoid P&Fs 1, 2, 6, 10, and 21 from Book I, and 15 from Book II. Then, pick one from the remaining P&Fs that you really like. Listen to the whole set, for I think the rest of them are fine to use. (I single those out because they are either very easy and/or overplayed)
Good luck!

Curtis wants two Chopin pieces of contrasting tempos.
Any more thoughts???
