how do you play accents?
on: September 15, 2006, 10:38:41 AM
I'm stumped by this one. >

How do you give it an accent? By playing it louder then the other notes? Then how is it different from a forte-ed note?

Well, when I do a Jewish accent, I tend to speak in a higher voice. It's funnier that way, for some reason. And what good is a Russian accent unless you do it with a resonant baritone. But for Irish, I just talk like a happy drunk, don'tch know.  :D :D :D

(Relax, I'm part Irish.)

Greetings.

An "accent" is a note that is slightly or otherwise not so slightly emphasized. In a 4 4 meter, every quarter note would be slightly emphasized to show rhythm for example. That is an accent. Otherwise, an accent in music would mean that a particular chord or note is louder and more emphasized than the rest.

A sforzando would indicate a strong accent.

Hmmm.  I thought "sforzando" was a gentile word for breaking wind!

That's something I don't do and then whine about my misspellings.
