All time: probably Myra Hess.
Today: probably Stephen Hough.

I think that negative comments against Malcolm Binns were a little harsh. he's an excellent journeyman pianist, and should be given credit where credit's due. Not perhaps the greatest, but exciting enough to be praised. (And, ridiculous trivia here: Malcolm Binns was in Gary Cooper's last Hollywood film, as a pianist on the background TV, playing the Rachmaninov 3rd).

Last thing he said: "Play Bach for me".

Stephen Hough, Ian Pace, Nicolas Hodges, Peter Donohoe, Malcolm Binns (in certain recordings), Jonathan Powell are all worth mentioning.

Oh, I forgot about John Ogdon. Man, what a genius (pianist) he was.

In the past: Hess, Solomon, Curzon.

Today?

Not impressed -- Lill and Hough I find both being cold. Perhaps Hough's past membership of Opus Dei made him that way.

Steven Osborne playing Kapustin. There's no other pianist, who can play like this.
