male/female age range
on: September 20, 2006, 05:03:16 PM
I'm new to this forum for about a week now.  I'm curious as to everyone's age range and are they male or female..I notice the profiles don't always show.....if anyone wants to share, I'll start.   I'm male, 41, single and straight.    If you don't want to share this info, we will understand as well.

I'm 57 years old.  Mentally ill.  And it's been so long since I've had sex that I forget what gender I am.  :o

Greetings.

If you would notice the general population of this forum tending towards the male status, I am sure it would arise questions or debates to ponder upon.

I am an 18 year old guy.

That's the price you pay for being moderate in everything.  See, if I were you, my name would be Ilovepie.  But that's just me.

When someone states their marital status as "single", and ther sexual orientation as "straight", it lets me know that that person is looking. :-X ;D ;)

or maybe it just means:     single not married, sexual orientation is straight.....why does it mean they are looking? doesn't have to mean anything more.

That's right. =P

I just added that cause other people were.  I think at this point I'd end up resenting anyone I went out with because they would be taking my time away from the piano. XD

i think this is some kind of scam.  i mean, once you do a poll - then prometheus will come on and say something like - ok. we have 3 ladies and 20 men.  what does this tell you?  we don't really care what it tells you.  what DOES it tell you?  i don't know.  women are likely to act out rather than just sit at a piano?  or, is it he opposite - women are likely to be teaching and doing some performing -therefore NOT EVEN ON piano forums.  whilst men, acting like they are doing something - are really on the computer 24/7.

i am hesitatnt to give out any information.  but, upon further consideration have decided to make my telephone number available for all (as leucippus so graciously granted his address).  it is 888-888-8888.  feel free to call and chat.  i often leave the phone off the hook, though - so you can try my cell phone (which is uncharged).  if you can't reach me that way - try looking in the back garden.  i am luckily married - am 45 - a straight bicyclist -  and a pianist - and a mom of three very widely spaced children (17, 12, and 5).

I think Pianistimo has broght up a good point. Why is there so much more males registered on this forum than females. An obvious answer would be: there are more guys at the piano. That is not necessarily true.

My answer would be this. Men are more prone to talk and conversation. Men enjoy talking in order to get a social ranking. Women don't do that. I make this statement in accordance to what I have read and my observations. In class(in any class for that matter), men are more likely to be involved in conversations. I ofter talk alot in class, because I like to expand on my point. Women generally remain quiet and pitch in occasionally. I hope that my argument may have something in relation with Pianistimo's point.

the answer is simple.  women work.  men talk about working.  (just kidding)  actually, i think it is that there are certain personality traits that are similar and different in both.  i know some very talkative women.  i feel talkative on the forum - but only because the subjects are likely about piano or music or creative writing of a sort.  when i get to the busstop...i am sort of the quiet one.  most of the time.  today - i admit to rambling about this and that.

we have to have a criminal background check to volunteer for school things like field trips and all - so of course i'm all elated that i have no criminal record.  i didn't hold the certificate really high and point to it - but i casually told my neighbor that i was cleared for function at the school.  wouldn't it be awful if a state just gave you a criminal record and then you had to prove it wasn't you that robbed the gas station.  it seems like everywhere i've lived there has been a state prison nearby.  first lancaster, now collegeville.  the state prison is within walking distance.  anyway, we both were fairly shocked our paperwork went through so fast.  we thought it might be months (backlog, etc).  it was a good excuse for a while.

good thing you have piano!  sorry if was joking too much on the 'what tune is this?'  what tune was it, anyways?  hope you enjoy playing some jazz and classical.  i used to tell my children - this is mommy's hour.  no popcorn.  no channel changing.  (or just put a video on and hope it fills the hour).  but, as they got older they got bolder.  now, they just tug on my leg or sleeve or pull my hand up the keyboard - totally messing up my spot.  or bang on the upper notes incessantly.

here's the secret.  give them everything they want.  icecream.  stories.  run around the house (i mean run really fast) five times.  they like to be chased and that makes them tired.  give them their bath.  their water.  their monster chasing.  and, then, when they get finally to bed and fairly asleep - then get your hour.  make sure bedtime is the same time each night.  if you wait until you've practiced - they'll be up until 11 pm.  8-9 pm is it around pennsylvania.  people stick to it.  the children wake up in the morning.  the thing is - people get mad if you practice piano at that hour.  so i'm in a catch-22.

I am a 52 year old female.  Married for over 30 years, have five kids.   It's nice to know that I am not the only one who went through the struggles pianistimo is speaking about.  I still struggle.  It is harder to practice now with my husband home than it was when all the kids were home.  (They did the same things your's do.)  Why is that?  Children seem to all be the same, just their faces are different!

Hi, I'll jump in and balance out the female representation.  40something, married with children.  I too struggle with multi tasking practice, ie, helping with spelling homework, sorting out kiddie social lives whatever, while trying to work out some fingering, timing issues, whatever, on the piano.  I practice when the children have just gone to bed, and apparantly they are getting used to falling asleep with the noise.  They always fall asleep eventually.
As a total aside, Pianistimo's family is the same as mine.  I have a brother 13 years older, a sister 8 years older and me-I'm the baby -still!!

Hi
I'm 35 and a single mother :-)

I couldn't play much when my children were little- but they didn't stay young for long :(  Now they are teenagers (13 & 16).  I practice when they are at school and use the practice pedal when they are upstairs watching TV or playing computer.  Time goes too quickly - soon enough you get all the time in the world and I'm sure the time will come when I wish I had less time because I miss my boys!

Enjoy what you have and the example you are setting for your children - both in having music in the house and the discipline to work at somethign you love.

It tells me what you probably already know. Women don't need to advertise the fact :)

[perhaps the straight ones do?  You certainly don't see many "21, curvy" women needing to point it out nor by themselves for long :D]
