I am sure you noticed.
on: September 24, 2006, 06:02:35 AM
Greetings.

I am sure the many of you have noticed about the vast growth of the anything but piano board. I am sure that this is partially due to the word association thread, but nevertheless, it will soon outweigh the other boards. At this rate, the site name should perhaps be "anything but piano street". ;)

Or, perhaps, it grew because it is a place where one can talk about anything. Just  a thought :P

Anything but piano street..... :-\

Exactly, hence the irony. The piano street will suddenly become, anything but piano street, because the number of posts in the anything room will far outweigh the number of posts in other boards, if the anything board should continue to grow as it does now.

We could quit with the quality posts on music and go for quantity.

Pianistimo, you do know that you are one of the foremost contributers to this board right? You are also logged on every time I log on.

It's a conspiracy! Pianistisimo and her shady gang wants to take over the street!  And you my dear debussy have made yourself target number 1, hence her appearance everytime you come here; she's keeping an eye on you.   We Love Big Brother.  Freedom is slavery... *cackle* *cough* (in severe need of cackle practice)

PS Don't you love the irony?  By complaining about growth, you're helping it grow.

Good plan, except that we quit with quality about 14 months ago,

Phew! She isn't logged on right now. She must have noticed that I am impossible to target. :D ;D. Big Brother, Pianistimo, forum domination? Hmm, she does have a way with incessantly posting. If I am not wrong it is against the forum runes to post relentlessly about nothing (If I may use that here), and Nils would have surely warned her. Oh! They are in this together!

(Talk about rambling about nothing)

As for me contributing to this board, yes, it is ironic, but at least others will notice now to actually stick to piano talk( I am sure there is alot to talk about). What kind of a piano forum is this, if let's say in some time 95% of all posts are going to be in the anything room? Thanks to the word association thread and others like it, this board will overly expand due to such accretion of myriad posts. One way to solve this "problem", if you will, is to ban such meaningless posts to a minimum.

Otherwise, why not just use the chatroom for such discussions. The word association game could well be played in the chat room. Pictures, okay, but there can't be a thousand posts where people can just post a sentence and walk away, only to post one a minute after.

where IS bernhard.  i miss his repetitious nature.  of course, with repeating every repeat sign, he is probably driving in a circle somewhere.  but, that's what i do all the time - without even trying.  bernhard...i really do miss you.

But you forget - he would have to catch and keep up.  I don't know that he could keep up.

How far behind is he?  I don't really think it is imortant to him.  Frankly, I am surprized that he even reads the non music stuff.  He is a teacher at heart it seems, and likes to post in that area.

I think it's become a great sounding board for people who have the common interest in piano to discuss life.....we all have a common bond, even though different ages, religions, etc.

I think idle chit-chat can help to hold a forum together.  But I think maybe there has been a decline in quality lately.  More members, but less quality.

I'm not in the mood for working on improving my teaching a whole lot though now.  Maybe it's just me.

I am fairly new here, but have greatly enjoyed the forum, even the idle chit-chat.  Sometimes (most of the time) I don't have time to read it all, or post it all.  I am amazed at how many members there are, and how few in percent actually post anything.  Most people seem just to read and not respond.  That just kills us talkers, we have a burning urge to respond to all we hear!

penguin lover......see my new topic about "why don't you join us" we were thinking alike today! i agree with you, teaching can be isolating, we see plenty of students, parents, etc...but nice to have a forum where we can discuss the issues no one else understands!=

Just doldrums hopefully.  Work, fatigue, etc.  I see the same patterns in forum posting.  A lot of people leave or stop/slow posting eventually.

Thanks.

I'm getting behind on reading the forum.  There's too much material for me to keep up with anymore.

Does anyone read it all?  I try to read the comments in the threads I post in, and then some of the current topics.  I would love to sit and read everything, the archives etc.  Sometimes I have a question, or post something, and then find out there is a huge thread about it somewhere.  Then I feel stupid for bringing it up again.   Even though this is in the "Anything but Piano" section, it is funny to see how many times we refer to piano or music anyway.

I think part of the forum experience is asking those questions.  Be lazy, ask.  Someone will give you the answer.  It's cool to get a reply to your comments anyway.
