Well, Zach, I'm not an expert. I'm also learning alone, and I'm looking for help... But since I started sooner, I will just tell you that you should learn chords. Most people would say "no, don't learn chords, 'cause you'd be damaging your technic". But it helped me alot, I evolved alot. If you're not interested in a professional career as a classical player, you shouldn't be afraid of learning chords. Here are good places to learn those.

I also play (electric/classic) guitar (learnt alone), and learning what I've learnt for three months helped me alot understanding music, and it gave me good ideas for rock songs. I'm sure it will help you alot too.
