My little miniature program
on: September 24, 2006, 05:46:28 PM
Here's my problem. I have trouble with my stamina on protracted pieces. Because of that, I basically only play shorter pieces. Here's the four short ones I'm polishing up for recital:
-Moszkowski's "Etincelles" (Horowitz transcirption)
-LIszt's "Gnomenreigen" (my favorite piece)
-A Scriabin Prelude
-Chopin Op. 10 no. 4 (crowd pleaser)

Should I throw in a longer, slower piece? Like I said, my pianistic stamina is not good. I cramp up. But I can play reasonably-lenghted pieces pretty well. Also, I am performing a recital of some of my own compositions (see Audition Room), but they are also pretty short. I wish I could play a sonata well. I mean, I can play a few, but I get very tired...

Intersperse  some groupings of "meno mosso" and "dolce" works  and you should be O.K.

With the stuff you're  playing now, your stamina will increase fairly rapidly; don't get discouraged.

good luck in your recital.

 Dear Girl:
As Mr. Bench wrote, inserting slower pieces will be great. If you don't mind, let me suggest some:
 Mozart's Fantasia K 397 (8')
 Debussy's Reverie (6')
Picker's Old and lost rivers (4')
Liszt's Ave Maria (from Harmonies Poetiques; 8')
Just some slow pieces that I really love. Hope it helps!
 Best wishes!
