Grieg Sonata in E minor, Op.7, 1st mvt.
on: September 24, 2006, 08:56:19 PM
I've been learning the whole sonata for a while now, but one section in the 1st mvt still gives me trouble- namely, the run in the Allegro molto ending, starting 14 measures before the end, and finishing 4 bars before the end, in hands-alternating 16ths. I just cannot get my hands to execute the passage clearly.

Anybody know a good way to battle this problem?

Take it hella slowly. Place EACH FIN MOVEMENT OF YOUR HAND ! And then GRADUALLY, and very slowly, and safely, get speed up. When you seem to just CAN'T get something ... that's the only way  ;D

Slightly off topic here guys

phil - if your problem is the rythm you have to play it in a tempo where you get it 110% correct. Try doing one and one measure, where your goal should be playing it twice as fast as you want it. Its easier setting down the speed then up. Sometimes practicing with a sort of really fast and hard staccato or "grabbing technique" as i call it works really well.

Actually, I recieved a bit of advice from my teacher on this the other week and it seems to be working.

Each hand must strike the keys from the same distance above the keyboard. If one hand is higher or lower than the other, the run will be lop-sided and hobbly.

i don't even know if he plays the piano.  he travels to italy supposedly to get piano lessons.  but what did he do there if he didn't get lessons.  then, supposedly he's in amsterdam for a concert - (and where's the proof - the recital program?  huh huh?)

i think tds is a homie.  he is a home boy.  and, might i add - he'd better post something in the audition room or i'll not believe he plays the piano.

oh.  and i forgot.  i guess i better post something sometime.  tds, can you come over here and help me record something?

I am going to Lang², Lugansky and Eckardstein this year. I have no idea why I am going to see Lang² though :'( . I am not going to Perahia, I don't like his style of playing really, and I have not seen Soerjadi.

I thought you were a string quarted before :D .
