Stupid question
on: September 27, 2006, 01:58:12 PM
Is there anyway we can put up sticky threads of some of the subjects covered in this forum.  Like take all the things said about practicing scales and put that into a sticky for easy reference and to avoid repeat questions.  Maybe even leave it open so it can be added to in the future.  I know there is a lot of good advice in this forum but it is all spread out.  I have a bunch of questions i know are already posted.
why does it hurt when i pee

Excellent question B0mbTrack, and it'sprobably been asked a jillion times, as well.

Nevertheless, I hope you get an affirmative answer.

Having just Barnhard's posts all categorized and readily available would be a wonderful resource.

Greetings.

Sticky threads aren't necessary, because sooner or later, you will have to scroll down several pages to not come across a "sticky" thread. Normal threads can be searched for, so whether "sticky" or not, it will not be ignored by an inquisitive member.

Hope this helps.

Oh really? Since when was Bernhard's word a consecrated eternity? That said, I don't think that the forum's ideas should be only restricted to Bernhard's advice, simply because his responce isn't the only one, and not necessarily the best one. (No offense of course, just speculation).

All his posts are usefull for beginners, and some even for more advanced players.

Yes. I am not saying that they aren't helpful, just that they can be accessed by the search button by someone who is looking for advice. Plus, with all the material, one will have to do a lot of scrolling before encountering a non-sticky. ;)

I think the suggestion was that the advice could be linked from, or copied into in a sticky thread or three, rather than a suggestion to make a substantial number of his [or other useful posts from others] sticky.

Personally I think the idea to take the advice and make a wiki [or similar] out of it would be better than either linking to or highlighting posts.

I think the posts are fine, searchable and best left as is, in context with the replies and other comments that went with them at the time.

But a wiki could take the info out, remove duplication, add clarification and present it in a different format - including catering for different schools of thought like Hanon etc, documenting things like the xls file of grades and the plethora of info about rep / pianists   and composers that's there as well.

More like a wikipedia of classical piano [yeah yeah with a page where we pretend Jazz and improv matter if we must :)  ] rather than a "What is thumb over?" type faq.

Hasn't m1469 tried to index the Forum?
That was quite some time ago though and if I remember correctly, although done with the best intentions, it didn't quite work the way she had hoped :-[  :-\

Yes, She did. If any of you are interested in what it turned out to be here it is https://www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php/topic,9159.0.html . I agree that something of this kind would be wonderful however everyone's situation is slightly different that other's but, having said that it would be able to help the majority of people imo. The real question would be how do you go about setting something up? There are varied little collections of links wandering around the forum someone just has to figure out how to get them together somehow plus add some.
