What do you think of this spreadsheet?

I would add a lot of things to this. (Post suggestions, however broad)
I would add a few pieces. (Name them, please)
This list stinks.  The pieces stink.  And you should just start all over with Sorabji complete TEs.
That seems adequate.  Hope you enjoy it.

Goal Repertoires- (Fixed). My Goal Spreadsheet.
on: September 27, 2006, 02:29:55 PM
Well, I made a spreadsheet of pieces that I eventually want to learn, as a systematic way to make sure that I don't forget or miss something.  This is published here:
https://ilocker.bsu.edu/users/dbaker/WORLD_SHARED/Goals.xls
You may find a variety of useful things in the parent directory.

What pieces would you suggest?  What are the pieces in your goal repertoire?  What is the piece which to you, right now, is most incredible?  What would you change in my spreadsheet, and what would, if you made one, you in include in yours? (you don't have to answer this one completely lol.)

Thank you.

P.S. I would especially like to hear the opinion of people, like Phil, who have far greater experience throughout the massive repertoire.

That's a very impressive list. How many years do you expect to take to learn all that? I composed a similar list a few months ago but have far less pieces than you and restricted to only a few composers, namely Chopin, Beethoven and Mozart. Also since I have limited time for piano I select pieces which I think I have a realistic chance of playing, and totally leaving out the very very very very difficult pieces like Liszt's etudes. How do you determine what you put in the Quality column?

If quality means difficult, then IMO you gotta rethink that... if it means how good you think the piece is then nvm.
Interested in discussing:

-Prokofiev Toccata
-Scriabin Sonata 2

It's how much i like it at the time I type it lol. ;) These are more or less goals to work through.  Not really like "now" goals, but definitely by the time I get old.  The ones I like more and have a more realistic chance to play will be played first.  And learn each one when it comes to convenience, IE, have a list of my favorites which I would really like to learn.

If you spend more time practicing the piano and less time making spreadsheets you might actually get somewhere.  ;D

I'm completely disappointed not to see any Debussy on your list.  :'(

Do you have a piano transcription of the Chaconne for solo violin?  Or a link to where I can download it?

I'm learning that piece on the violin and I was actually thinking of transcribing it for piano myself, but if someone has already done a transcription of it I would like to see how they transcribed it.

Thanks.

A. Debussy doesn't have any emotion of depth, but rather is concrete ideas :(.

B. Gamingforce has Busoni's Transcriptoin, which is mindblowing.  You gotta play it!  There's a brahms for LH alone which is mediocre at best. :(

C. This is more along the lines of finding all my favorite pieces ;),not learning them all asap, which happens after I choose them ;).

Seems to me that such an opinion would necessarily be quite subjective.

I've personally found Debussy's music to have more emotional depth than anything I've played thus far.

To each their own I guess.   One's man trash is another man's gold. ;)

Im not sure how useful these lists really are, but good luck. I've tried the list route (on violin). The thing is that your priorities and goals and knowledge change so frequently, that a month later you may here completely new stuff that inspires you and thus the list becomes obsolete. I admire the thought process.
