What would you choose?
on: October 04, 2006, 01:34:38 PM
Hi

I have to choose a romantic piece, but I'm having a hard time choosing which one. Maybe you have a few hints for me. I am thinking about chopin fantasy op.49; or maybe the mendelsohn variations serieuses (so beautiful); and I heard here the Spanish rapsody of liszt but i don't know if it's playable for me (I already played the second ballade). If anyone has other ideas?

Mendelssohn Variations Serieuses is one of my favorites, and it's my favorite Mendelssohn, besides Finbar Cave Overture (?)

L'art de Chant Applique au piano is quite good.

Liszt Erlking is also one of my favorites, although Mazeppa is my very favorite, but not easy in the slightest respect.

Thal

it's a poke of fun at thalbergmad.  Sorta Like Liszt's Arpeggio Study on Thalberg's moses

To my knowledge, Thalberg did not compose one.

He composed a fantasy on Rossini's Moses, which he played in his famous duel with Liszt. That is when Liszt played his Niobe.

I am also pretty sure Thalberg did not compose a fantasy on Niobe. And yes, Liszt's fantasy on Pacini's Niobe was played at the duel (Liszt also played Weber's Konzertstuck, whilst Thalberg played the Moses Fantasy and his fantasy on God Save the Queen).
