In my day, i can never remember anyone coming off better from a remark.

I guess that examiners are a tightly knitted community who don't like having there work questioned.

I came off worse twice when i asked papers to be re marked.

Perhaps things are different now.

It's far too easy to say it was unfairly marked. It is extremely rare for an exam to be marked unfairly. If it came out lower in the remark then you have clearly just failed the exam. Why not take a step back and look at why you failed, instead of claiming unfair marking. We all fail stuff, it's the only way to learn, we learn from mistakes. But the only way to learn is to look at where you went wrong, and accept the blame instead of blaming the adudicator.

Look little boy, i dont know what your problem is, but had i not had a remark it would have been a fail, as it is the remak that brought the mark up and resulted in a pass. Now little boy i suggest you stop looking down on me. Infact they appologiezd for this mistake.

Calling someone "little boy" in an attempt to make yourself look better doesent really work. I think franz wasent trying to look down on you, but rather make a point that when you fail its your own fault, and you didnt study hard enough or didnt fully understand the material. Blaming the adudicators is the easy way out.

I wasn't looking down on him at all, but if he wants to call me little boy fine, now I shall look down on him.

Another viable cause is a teacher who didn't teach the all the correct material for an exam.  Examination requirements change as the years go by.  Unfortunately there are teachers around who don't keep up to date on current requirements and marking practices, and still teach from material they learned 20 years ago.

Teacher's have homework to do as well.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

I remember in high school, in my human biology class, I sat an exam and was a mark short of an A because my teacher had never bothered to tell me that, in science, you call it a uterus, not a womb. It was, let's see ... seven years ago. It still bugs me. :) Totally irrelevant, I know...

I don't think they're allowed to take marks away when they're remarking something anymore. Seems a bit shitty to add insult to injury like that. :)

at west chester there are entrance exams - that if you fail - you must take a 101 class in that subject to get up to par.   i was worried about my theory and ended up needing the history class again.  of course, if it means you can't enter the uni period - then maybe a community college class of a similar vein?

seems that way back when - i had to redo an english class to get into the higher level classes and actually it was more fun than i thought.  don't be in a rush.  sometimes we overlook things that help by not taking it slow and doing an extra year.  of course, nowdays it's all money.  but, even workbooks can help.  just take a theory workbook and take your time and really try to learn whatever it is instead of barely passing.  you want to excel, right?

zheer, if you read your first post again you might see that the very problem with this discussion is that it is easy to get the impression that you still failed after the remarking. If so, franzliszt2's comment was indeed very relevant and helpful.
