How do you prevent from wasting to much time on the pc
on: October 09, 2006, 09:12:03 PM
hey i have the feeling that im "wasting" or spending to much time on the computer.
I think time is really valuable and it should be invested differently for example in school, for im doing my final exams soon, and in playing piano.
However, i cant seem to get away from the computer i really need serious help lol. Why am i laughing this is actually very  sad. I really recognized that the more time I spend in front of the computer the more depressed I get :/. But the situation doesnt get better, despite the fact that I even admit this to myself. And what do ppl always  say - "self-awareness is the best way to improve". guess that doesnt apply to me >_<
best regards,

ganymed

PS: I'm curious if other ppl experienced the same

I do try to limit myself to a couple of hours a day, but apart from coming in here, i don't really visit many other sites.

I did once fall into the habit of aimless surfing, but that was done in works time not mine.

If you see it as a problem, you are halfway to a "cure".

Like so many things in life, it is probably just a habit. A habit is completely indifferent to its moral quality. Most of us have a liberal selection of good and bad habits. The vast majority are so innocuous they are scarcely worth worrying about. As Thal says, the fact that this particular habit has come to your conscious attention has provided you with the choice of altering it.

It doesn't take much imagination to devise means of altering habits. Indeed, only you can work out the best strategy for yourself. Some negative habits respond favourably to gradual reduction, others to sudden cessation. For instance, excessive coffee drinking might be reduced gradually, whereas going through red lights would be better curtailed immediately. Sometimes it is possible to replace a bad habit with a good one. For example, somebody who consumes a heap of fatty chocolate every day might find it quite easy to switch to consuming a pile of healthy snacks instead.

The best way for you is the way you work out for yourself.
