just curious! i visited that site, I personally don't use faber and faber materials....and all the people on that site in the forum just go on and on about how the fabers are Gods basically.   They won't hardly discuss anything except that music.....Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the materials, but there are a lot of great methods out there.   Personally I don't like to use any "series" ( lesson book, technic book, theory book, performance book)..I use many method books and mix them together....That's just me, I like to tailor the lessons to what the students like and also have them well rounded by working on all types of music and music that is printed differently than in a "series"     any thoughts anyone??

possibly.

At any rate the pianoteaching.com forums do have a lot of in depth info specificcally on teaching, and the business of teaching.

just to add to my post:     I have 'lurked" on that site for a while.... one thing that bothers me is that most of the posters bash all methods except "faber and faber" .    I think all methods can have their usefullness--depends on the teacher and how the material is presented/suplemented, etc.

Yes, I'm the same one.  I use the same name on piano world as well, but a different name on the ABRSM boards, but don't go there much.  I was going to look into their method for the next time I start a beginner, but the only thing that makes me wonder about it a bit, is their use of "positions."  These are okay to start with, but I like my students out of them as soon as possible.  I agree with you.  Mixing and matching various things depending on each student is the way to go.  I will, however, say I am biased towards the Celebration series, since I was taught using the Royal Conservatory.  But I really like the music that Faber and Faber has, so depending on the student, I'd be inclined to use their stuff, too.  So far, Michael Aaron is the book I've been using to start my students with.   :)

michael aaron??? no way! lol    I thought I might be the only teacher left that uses michael aaron.     All the teachers on that site talk about faber and faber not teaching "positioning"...but then I had some transfer students and I had my first experience with the faber and faber books--I was shocked how they did much positioning and the students are having trouble note reading as well. Of course I can't blame the method or the teacher, students are all different.

I start young children with the Micheal Aaron primer, then move them into Faber and Faber or Alfred. Been doing this for quite a few years now. The combo works quite well, Aaron leads into both methods superbly, by far the best primer I've ever seen.
