Tendonitis

Is it possible to get tendonitis from playing fast too soon? e.g.: if you're trying to play a Bach piece and you want to increase your speed, you increase your speed a bit per day according to the metronome.

I saw it in a movie (Turning Pages) and that scared me a little.
