Nothing has happened where I am except that my hands are cold. But that's an event that isn't solely attached to today.

Wonder if any good films will be on tonight to celebrate. Maybe Friday the 13th?

Where I usually put them - in the air! My house is freezing at the moment, yet everything else is warm - even my feet. Nice and toasty :)

But my hands are warming up now. I hope my heart isn't freezing over...

Can anyone tell me why Friday 13th is considered unlucky? I've heard that it's to do with the crucifixion, the Knights Templar, Norse mythology, vikings and sailing. This sounds to me like a frightening combination if ever there was one, but it doesn't really help. Unless it's only unlucky because you have to try to wrap your brain around all of these things in one day, but I would consider that torturous rather than unlucky...

Anyway. Thoughts, anyone?

Superstition passed down through the ages. Probably stemmed from some wise magician/wizard to royalty playing a joke.

It is my understanding that the Knights Templar were killed off by the French government on this date, and that is the only reason that I know of that it is supposedly a unlucky day.

There are traditions that Adam and Eve are supposed to have eaten their first apple on a Friday and that Noah's flood happened on a Friday, then of course there's Easter. Quite who decided Friday was a good day to pick for bad stuff to happen in the Christian tradition is another matter...

If anyone's really superstitious, especially now there's only about two hours left to be superstitious about, if you add up the digits of today's date you get 13 (1+3+1+0+2+0+0+6). Aparently the last time that happened was in the mid 1500s.

I read this too, I think it was in "The Tomb of Christ".

The number 13 is unlucky because there were 13 (12 disciples + Our Lord) who sat down to the the last supper (the last meal of Christ before his torment and cruxifiction).   And Friday is unlucky because our Lord was crucified on a Friday.   So the combination of 13 and Friday is especiially bad.  Sorry, nothing to do with the c**p in The da Vinci Code  ;)

Had it not been for your use of the definite article before it, your reference to "da Vinci Code" might almost have carried with it a faint suggestive whiff of that SDC lingo that Thal "accused" me of exceptionally appropriating a little while ago (I've not done it again since, I promise...)

That's the main theory. But things like these can also originate from nothing. People are a little silly.

I set my house alarm off accidentally and had a HUGE fight with my piano teacher  :-\
It all happens on Discworld, where greed and ignorance influence human behavior... and perfectly ordinary people occasionally act like raving idiots.
