The most performed repertiore
on: October 16, 2006, 01:06:24 AM
I was thinking perhaps this might work.  I've listed arguably the most performed works by the major composers in the mainstream to find out which is the most 'popular piece'.  Unfortunately this generally means lesser, easier pieces and pieces which everyone would/could play, so things like Scriabin sonata's can't really fit the bill.
This will obviously only end up as being the most popular among piano street users but it could prove interesting.
(if anyone can come up with a 'greatest hit' for Schubert, let me know coz I can't think of one)

The Shosty dances aren't overly played, and neither is the Ravel Sonatine... if anything, you should put on the Chopin etudes,
Interested in discussing:

-Prokofiev Toccata
-Scriabin Sonata 2

I was only thinking one piece from each composer (but I got stuck with Bach and Beethoven).  I tried to put down one piece each from each of the mainstream composers and those Shosta dances I think get played the most.
Schubert what schubert?
As I said, I can't think of a Schuebrt piece to put in the voting area, so if anyone can suggest one.

I get the feeling this isn't gonna work coz there's gonna be too much debate about each piece :-[

I'd say the Moonlight sonata. The first movement can be learned by pianists alike: novices and masters, and is/can be liked by the most elite of pianists. Also it offers auditionees a piece that can showcase many talents in three movements, therefore I grant it the most overplayed piece, or the piece with the greatest possibility of being learnt and played.

Hahahaha four people voted for Schubert even without knowing what piece it is.

Fur Elise is probably the most played piece on that list.

Few play the Fur elise well, simply because once they reach an advanced level they start to look down in this piece.

The closest piece that Ravel has to "overplayed" would be Jeux d'eau.

You might want to edit the poll so you can only vote for one piece.

Staying on topic, I'd say Fur Elise wins this list hands down.

Impromptu Op. 90 No. 3?
I was thinking of that - but that is rather hilarious that people have voted for Schubert with no piece, so I might just leave it. :P
Aaahh most played, not most overplayed... or does that mean the same thing?
That's a tough one! it depends one one's reaction to the piece - if it's overplayed, I guess, people would be sick of it.  But if it's played a lot and someone likes the piece, then you would still like I think.  Maybe it's best that they are the same thing :-\
You might want to edit the poll so you can only vote for one piece.
Why? The object is to find the most common piece that everyone has played.  If you only pick one then which one do you choose if you've played more.
