why is no one ever in the chat room

Ignorant as I admit to being in such matters, wouldn't "1 person in the chatroom" be indicative that the said person might be talking to him/herself?

I tried it a few times when it first started but soon realised that I'm simply not very good at chat. Aside from that, positioned where I am on the globe, I seem to be too early for the Europeans and too late for the Americans.
