Conducting help
on: October 19, 2006, 04:07:57 AM
Background info:

https://www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php/topic,21195.0.

I want to do a Mozart Quartet with less emphasis on violas. It has to be suitable for Christmas, and I am just doing the first movement. Shouldn't be too difficult for a first time conductor and a first time concert. A simple, yet great piece for christmas is needed thanks

The sheets are here.

Actually, what do you guys think is the minimum number of players in an orchestra before they need a conductor.
I don't want to look ridiculous conducting an ensemble of four people.

it really depends. You can have an orchestra with 50+ people and no conductor and believe me i have seen that or you can have four retards who can't keep a simple 4/4 meter. I however don't think a quartet needs a conductor....

8's not too small, think of many churches that have a choir of 8 - 10 but still have a conductor.  To get beautiful details across, 8 is too many people to just discuss amongst themselves, they need a leader.  It is actually nice, because it is not too big.

If you don't want to be ridiculous, just don't overdo it.  The only cure for being victimized by other people's opinions is to satisfy your own conscience, by not feeling ashamed for what you didn't do, or not feeling ashamed for doing too much!
