Gun control?
on: January 26, 2004, 12:38:13 AM
I have noticed that many of you have hinted at approval of gun control.  Where do you all stand?  I feel that guns should be allowed but the owners should undergo a psych evalution (to make sure that no looneys get their hands on guns).  I would like to point out an error in the thinking of most pro-gun control people.  This error is the belief that things would change if guns were all of a sudden made illegal.  People would steal and murder just as much as now, just using knives and bats.  Also, I would like to point out that Hitler is the originator of "gun control".

I don't really approve of gun control.  Yes, there should be evaluations to make sure they aren't mentally questionable, and background checks and such; but I don't see why people shouldn't be allowed to own guns.  However, if they ever commit a crime with one, their privilages to owning one should be revoked, permanently.

I would not say Hitler was the originator.  Long before that, governments at various times liked to restrict firearms ownership and use.  Important people didn't want alot of the commoners owning guns, as they give the masses alot of power.  Rather like hunting was reserved for the elite, so were many things related to shooting.

I should clarify.  This country's (USA) "Gun Control Act of 1968" law is based on a Nazi law, "Weapons Act of 1938".  https://constitutionalistnc.tripod.com/hitler-leftist/id14.html- This site has some info on that Nazi law.

I live in Canada were gun control is in effect, and we have i believe 17 million guns or something like that in our great country (just over 1/2 of the population owns guns).  They are controlled to some extent and we experience far less gun deaths per captita then the US, hurray for bowling for coumbine.!

There are around 7 million guns in Canada and around 35% of people have one.  There is no evidence that gun control laws have influenced the gun death rate.  Canada has always had significantly lower crime rates.  Gun deaths in the U.S. are 00.3 per 1000 people, and in Canada 0.01 per 1000 people.  Gun registry would just make it easy for the government to find everyone with a gun and confiscate it.  That's how Hitler did it.

Why the sad face? :)  If no death penalty means a lower crime rate, that's a happy thing!

But I like the death penalty ;).  I put the sad face because maybe capital punishment does effect crime rates.

I'm not trying to be challenging, but am just asking you:
Why do you like the death penalty, if those countries with it nearly always seem to have higher violent crime rates?

Don't worry about challenging or offending me.  I can take it.  To answer your question, the death penalty just seems right to me.  When somebody kills another person without nessecity, I think they should also die.  But hey, I'm willing to change my mind on this if there is evidence to support your theory.  I also like the death penalty because I'm a somewhat vengeful person and if someone in my family was murdered, I wouldn't have to kill the perpetrator myself.  Wow, that sounds bad....

I admit it does sound bad, but millions of people feel the same way.  Then again, millions of people agree with me, as well.  I've said before, look at what company we keep by having the death penalty:  China, Saudi Arabia, former Iraq and Afghanistan, Libya, Algeria...the list goes on and on.  By comparison, most of the advanced countries of the world don't have death penalties, and boast lower violent crime rates than America.

Gen 6, seriously, you should rent Bowling for Columbine. Even if you don't change your mind, you will laugh your a** off.
