Carl Vine´s piano sonata
on: October 23, 2006, 09:26:30 PM
Listen to the last part (Leggiero) on this recording by Babayan.

Is it edited or can he really play as clean live?

this recording is so damn fast in comparison to michael kieran harvey's or robert henry's (whose is a live rec). i wouldnt doubt that it was probably sped up or something.

I doubt it was edited - Joyce Yang's recording is about that tempo, live.

Well it's fast, but i've seen way way worse things than that live, especially by Hamelin. So that is possible. Babadjanian's poem for piano, as a part wich is similar to this, and I heard it live at this speed.

Well, it's certainly fast, but the piece is also surprisingly pianistic. There are some tricky spots in the beginning of the 2nd movement, but in general, the sixteenthnotes are right there under your fingers. Most of the time.
Believe me, the first movement is not hard at all.

what do you guys think of the second vine sonata? imo it makes this one look like child's play.

Technically it lies a lot less comfortably, but it's just such a crappy piece of MUSIC compared to the first (although I don't know how fair that is because the first Sonata by Vine is just ridiculously awesome) that if you had to choose to learn one or the other, I don't really see how you could choose the second, or third for that matter.

When Practice Stagnates – Breaking the Performance Ceiling: Robotic Training for Pianists

“Practice makes perfect” is a common mantra for any pianist, but we all know it’s an oversimplification. While practice often leads to improvement, true perfection is elusive. But according to recent research, a robotic exoskeleton hand could help pianists improve their speed of performing difficult pianistic patterns, by overcoming the well-known “ceiling effect”.
