Recital Programme ideas
on: October 27, 2006, 06:58:12 PM
Hey!

I was thinking of putting together a recital programme, but I am awful at putting things in order, and deciding pieces etc..So I'm looking for some advice

My programme is as follows:

Bartok 15 hungarian Peasant songs (Not sure whether to start with this)

Beethoven Les adiux or Appasionata

Debussy  Reflets dans l'eu from image bk1

Ravel jeux deux

Chopin Ballade 4 or 3rd scherzo

INTERVAL

Bach 2nd partita

Liszt sonata in B minor OR Prokofiev 6th sonata. (Can't decide which will work best in relation to rest of programme)

This is just a rough idea, I havn't actually got a recital planned or anything, but I was thinking of maybe doing one in summer or sometime. I have learnt all the notes to every piece, except Liszt and Prokofiev (can play notes, but need a lot of work). Could I please have some opinions on repertoire, order if pieces, length etc..or anything else about it.

Thanks in advance!  :)

I like this order - do the Beethoven Les Adieux!!

Yes, I forgot. Les Adieux would be better choice than Appassionata.

I might have individualistic ideas, but I think a more convincing order is,

Bach
Bartok
Chopin or Beethoven

INTERMISSION

Debussy
Ravel
Liszt

I think there are two many different composers and it doesn't balance well, so I would recommend removing either the Chopin or Beethoven, or keeping them interchangeable (if you play it in otehr places, you can change it somewhat).  The Liszt can be by itself of course in one half, but impressionistic music tends to really get the audience listening, and they will focus better esp. at the beginning of the Sonata, whcih you need.  After the intermission people are not settled in so fast, and it can make the beginning of the Sonata matter less to them.

It is possible to start with Bartok, but then leave Bach out all together, because in my experience it is not good playing Baroque music after so many other different styles.  I realize it is a bit of cliche to always begin with Bach, but actually sometimes these things become the norm because they really work, and I think it is true here.

Just some suggestions!
