Bach on guitar

Bach on accustic guitar can sound so good, do you think it has something to do with the plucking sound as with Harpsicord, i would go as far as saying Bach can sound better on guitar.

Hi Zheer!

Must also say so.

The first time I heard a recording of Bach played on the lute (which is the forerunner of today's Guitar transcriptions), the music felt so divine! The plucking sound of a stringed instrument does have the magical effect - apart from the micro nuances of the actual finger positioning on the strings. The human contact or "touch" element of the sound producing  (e.g. voice, all string and wind instruments, basic percussion drums - as against via the keys of the piano to its strings or via the drumsticks and brushes on to the leather) does make a difference.

Julian Bream - both on the lute as well as the guitar - has made  some good Bach recordings.

Incidentally, saw your Chopin performance on YOUTUBE - thanks to the link you had sent to Boran (b.piano). Very good, I must say!

Keep going!

Hi zheer,

I  first noticed the footnote

in  your postings pertaining to b.piano.

After your latest posting, I made it a point to re-visit  many of your earleir postings and find that this footnote is in almost all of them.

yes you can do the same thing, you have an option on your profil to say a little about yourself if you like, and that will appear on every post,

The California Guitar Trio has done some Bach and other classical pieces on steel string Acoustic Guitars, using a non-standard tuning.  They did the "Tocatta and Fugue in Dminor" on Invitation, and did an excellent job.

One of the things that is amazing about Bach is how good the same piece sounds on various instruments. I heard a performance of one of his pieces (I don't remember what) performed on the piano, guitar and in a woodwind quintet and each time it sounded like it was specifically written for that instrument.  Not all composers translate so well (that's not a criticism of other composers though; after all Chopin and the piano seem made for each other, but I digress).
The artist does nothing that others deem beautiful, but rather only what to him is a necessity.  Arnold Schoenberg, Theory of Harmony
