Paganini Variations by Alexander Rosenblatt
on: October 28, 2006, 09:00:26 PM
Does anyone know who publishes Rosenblatt's music? In particular I'm looking for his Jazz Variations on a Theme of Paganini, but I'd like to find his other music too.

Thanks in advance, folks.

Thank you at least for that! The question is, how did you get your copy? By all means send me a PM if it would be better. You aren't anywhere near London, England, I suppose?

Hijack!

Sorry for the hijack but I was just wonder if anyone knows where I can get a Midi file of a SOLO piano playing Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody On A Theme By Paganini.

I've found quite a few Midi's with the whole orchestra bit, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of a Midi of this piece that has just the SOLO piano.  Even a duet with just piano and a single violin would be great!

You may now return to your regularly scheduled thread. Thank you, and I apologize for the interruption but I didn't want to start a whole new thread for this simple question and this thread seemed pretty close to the topic.  ;D

all you need to do is open up the midi with a special program and turn off all the tracks but the piano part. btw, pianolist, check your PM. theres a surprise in there.

Thank's I'll give that a shot.  But I was also thinking that a solo midi might actually be a little different to compensate for the missing orchestra.   But maybe not.

Leucippus, it isn't quite clear to me what you are after. I posted an mp3 of the Rachmaninov two-piano version which I had transcribed for piano roll and then recorded, and you'll find it on the Editing of Piano Rolls thread in the Audition Room:

https://www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php/topic,20642.msg232522.html#msg232522

https://www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php/topic,20642.msg232606.html#msg232606

The first version uses something called Mp3Pro, which not everyone seems able to play, and the second is only at 112 kbps, so it fits under the 20,000 kb limit.

But do you particularly need MIDI? My original computer file is on an Apple //e, which was around before many of PianoStreet's members were born. I can transfer it to PC as a punch master file, which is a form of MIDI that sends an ON and OFF for every hole in the piano roll, rather than every note. So it sounds like everything is repeating all the time, rather like a barrel piano.

In time I hope to write a program to go from Apple to normal PC MIDI, but I have too many concerts coming up to have enough time at the moment.

Anyway, let me know if I can help, and what exactly you need.

I'm specifically looking for a MIDI because I can suck it up into my sheet music program.  That program allows me to play any measures at any speed, which is a nice learning tool for me.

I don't have that kind of control over MP3 files.

The sheet music for the piano solo would be good too as I could ulitimately type that into my sheet music program as I'm learning it.  I'm a slow learner so that's no problem.

I can use the standard ochestra version which I already have, but I'm thinking that a solo transcription might be a bit different.  Although I really don't know, I'm just guessing on that.

You have a very fine version on youtube of it:

Does anyone know this piece? It's a catchy piece for 2 pianos on themes of Carmen, also by Rosenblatt:

Currently learing:
- Chopin: Ballade No.3
- Scriabin: Etude Op. 8 No. 2
- Rachmaninoff: Etude Op. 33 No. 6
- Bach: P&F No 21 WTC I
