Recital question- playing more than one instrument?
on: October 29, 2006, 12:15:13 AM
I am planning on putting on a solo flute recital sometime after Christmas at my church. I definitely have more than enough repetoire for this recital but was thinking about doing something a little different. I am a serious organ student (nowhere as good as I am on flute, but I play real repetoire, not just hymns). I think that it fits the theme since organ is a wind instrument and has a lot of flute stops. This would effect what I would wear since playing organ in a skirt is a bit of a pain in the butt (esp after you fall off the bench LOL).
What do you guys think of this idea? Is it "showoffy" or a bit of a circus act or is it legit? The only thing which worries me a bit is that the tuning on the organ will be off in the winter since organs are always in cold sanctuaries, but people do play out of tune organs all the time LOL.

I think its a great idea, since you have an interest in both flute and organ. Its a good thing to not include too much organ, as I understand that the recital is meant for flute. You can tell the announcer to say out(or yourself) that there will be an 'organ exclusive' during the recital.
Go for it, and good luck!!!

Go for it!
For the audience, variety is always a good thing. I would like to see more concerts featuring different instruments. Sometimes hearing the same instrument for too long becomes monotonous, where a change of tibre would be a great contrast.
