December Recital
on: October 31, 2006, 08:13:39 AM
How does this program sound?

Bach-Busoni Chaconne from Partita No. 2 in D minor
Liszt Transcendental Etude No. 8 "Wilde Jagd" in C minor
Liszt Liebestraum No. 3 in A flat
Liszt Mephisto Waltz No. 1 in A major
Chopin Ballade No. 1 in G minor
Chopin Ballade No. 2 in F major
Chopin Preludes Op. 28 Nos. 15, 16, 24

Suggestions? Comments? Criticism? Douchebaggery?
My favorite piano pieces - Liszt Sonata in B minor, Beethoven's Hammerklavier, Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit, Alkan's Op. 39 Etudes, Scriabin's Sonata-Fantaisie, Godowsky's Passacaglia in B minor.

I would put it this way:

Bach-Busoni Chaconne from Partita No. 2 in D minor
Chopin Preludes Op. 28 Nos. 15, 16, 24
Chopin Ballade No. 1 in G minor
Chopin Ballade No. 2 in F major
____

Liszt Transcendental Etude No. 8 "Wilde Jagd" in C minor
Liszt Mephisto Waltz No. 1 in A major

Encore: Liszt Liebestraum No. 3 in A flat

Max, I don't think this program is balanced. I think you should add something from one more composer to diversify a little bit.

Other than that, I would put the program this way:

Bach-Busoni Chaconne
Other work by different composer*
Chopin Ballade No.1 or 2 (don't do both)
Other work by different composer**

Intermission

Liszt Liebestraum
Liszt Wilde Jagd
Liszt Mephisto Waltz No.1

Encore w/ the Chopin preludes.

*Put the other work here if you choose a Classical composer- I recommend one of the Beethoven Sonatas.

**Put the other work here instead if you decide on a Romantic or 20th-century composer.

Phil
