I enjoy both of these performances very much, some days I prefer Kissin, somedays Gilels

I think both interpretations are exquisite.  I enoy the excitement that Kissin brings to it, but I also like the calmness (both in interpretation and physical body language) that Gilels brings to it.

Gilels on a bad day beats Kissin any day.

agreed. kissin doesnt even come close, even if you compare kissin's supposedly-good chopin concertos at age 12 to the worst of gilels' playing.

After I posted this I watched them again, Gilels first then Kissin. I voted for Gilels; Kissin's playing is excellent, it's very fleet and agile ( often this piece is used as an anvil by pianists) but a little clipped, and suprficial sounding next to Gilels. Gilels' playing is perhaps definitive in this instance.

Are you joking me? Gilels is 10 times better than Kissin will ever be. His feeling is so much more...organic. Know what I mean? Kissin is just too technical.

Besides, Gilels has better hair.  ;)

I think Gilels could use a bit of Kissin and vice versa in terms of their hair.
