free program to write simple tunes
on: November 08, 2006, 08:11:08 PM
isn't there a theory site that allows a person to type in a few notes and print the page out. i'm helping with a musical and i don't have any of those fancy software programs such as sibelius. i really only want to type in the notes for a few simple tunes - so the children can practice with some sheet music. basically just the melody line.
also, is there a downloadable program that will help make a cd into karaoke? turn the treble down? i don't care if a little of the treble is audible. i also called a recording studio just to see what it would cost.

Your first request:

For the second one unfortunately I don't know anything.

I have the full version of Finale 2005 and work with it. Every year comes a revised edition. It's definitely not cheap. It's a good software. But it takes you a certain time to become familiar with it and there are some bugs in it that i find annoying. Thought about changing to Sibelius. But no software is perfect and if I changed I would probably find different bugs.

on this 2007 test version - can i still put another key and time signature into the piece in the middle? i can't seem to figure that out. also, i couldn't find the double bars for the 'fine.' so i have 'unfinished business.' i want to just draw the lines in - but how unprofessional is that? it has a repeat sign - but no fine sign.

Pianistimo,
For your second question -
Removing vocals from a already mixed track can never be done "perfectly". See -
The Truth About Vocal Eliminators
https://www.ethanwiner.com/novocals.html
However since you mention that you don't care if a bit of the vocals are still left - try the AnalogX Winamp plugin. You can download the plugin from -
https://www.analogx.com/contents/download/audio/vremover.htm
Of course, you need to have Winamp installed. If you don't have it already, you can download it from
https://www.winamp.com
The results of the vocal remover will vary from song to song.
Let us know how it goes.
Regards,
Srivats

dear srivatsp,
thank you SO much for your help! the children probably will feel more secure having a little bit of vocal still on the cd - but not terribly much. i'm going to try this tommorrow when my son comes home from school. he's the one that usually gets things to work. susan
