I think both of these performances are outstanding although very different. I think Hamelin has a better overall grasp of the piece's structure and his playing is very beautiful and stylistically appropriate. Zimmerman has more nuance and color, it's what we often call "sensitive" playing, but it seems to me that he loses focus, what people often say about Horowitz, that it doesn't sound like a single piece but a series of similar episodes, or disconnected, the extraodinary beauty and finish of his playing notwithstanding.

Hamelin's sensitivity is not less or inferior to Zimmerman's,  just perhaps more straightforward and direct and the piece has more direction and continuity under his fingers as well as having beauty, nuance and melodic line to spare, at least it seems so to me. And so Hamelin gets my vote in this instance, although it's no discredit to Zimmerman at all.

ive always seen his name written as zimerman. i dont know why people sometimes have two m's and two n's. also, i cant really pick between the two. both do it really well.

that is because he is polish, not german. germans are the ones that double the letters.
