Best edition of Rach 2
on: November 18, 2006, 03:20:51 PM
I'm looking for a good edition of Rach 2 with solo piano part and orchestral reduction piano part, not a four-hand arrangement. Anyone got any suggestions as to which the best edition is? Thanx.

Boosey and Hawkes Edition, no doubt. I bought all 4 rach piano concerts from here, they are superb.

There's no reason to pay for Boosey in Rachmaninoff. The Schirmer edition is perfectly fine. That's the edition I learned from, and my teacher before me.

Schirmer is the publisher in the United States of Boosey and Hawkes.
Look at the copyright information.

I would purchase Schirmer except for the poor quality of the printing on the pages, but also it is a reprint of the Boosey and Hawkes so the Boosey would not be that much clearer.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Very much agreed...this piece of music was written so recent that all the editions are pretty much the exact same!! Same goes for most other pieces written after 1900 too.  The only difference between the Shirmer and B&H is that the B&H is more spaced out.  Shirmer score is a bit more crunched..but no real deal..

Cheers!
