Conservatory Audition Drop
on: November 22, 2006, 12:27:05 AM
If you were auditioning at the following schools and had to drop one, which would it be?

Cincinnati
Indiana
Cleveland
Oberlin
Eastman
Peabody
Curtis

What about dropping two?

Just curious...

Well, unless you are one of the top1% of the top 1% of young musicians in the world, the chances of making Curtis are very slim. You might consider passing on it.

I think it is more important to consider what professors are you looking for.
It is definitely difficult to get into Curtis. You must be young and very brilliant.
As for the other schools, make sure you are well prepared and it won't be too difficult.

Yeah i mean it really depends what you want to get out of your education?? and how good a pianist you are now.  If you are looking purely at getting into a prestigious school recognised internationally id be inclined to say drop Cincinnati and maybe oberlin?! BUT as its been said if you are desparate to go this year and prestige isnt the only consideration then you should knock out curtis because unless you are truely awsome then the chances of being accept are slim and you should have one which is almost a guarenteed - i'll get in there.  But not knowing you or your playing I can really offer much more advice. Why drop one?? Do them all! The opportunity of auditioning at so many schools is valuable and if you do try Curtis at least you can say you played to the audition panel and got to sound the place out!

That would basically be the worst reason to go to a school simply because its "recognized internationally." And its a really uninformed statement to recommend dropping Oberlin and Cincinatti just because YOU don't think they're prestigious or internationally known, especially when they most certainly are. I go to Oberlin, and the musicians here are amazing... They're as good as anywhere.

The decision should really be based on what teacher you want, since you are going to school to LEARN presumeably... I know people who got into Julliard, but didn't go because they didn't get hte teachers they wanted, where they got hte ones they wanted elsewhere.
