What Say YOU? (updated)
on: November 22, 2006, 06:28:12 AM
Hello all,

I'm choosing a repertoire to perform around New Year's. This is what I came up with.

Partita No. 2 in C minor               Johann Sebastian Bach
Impromptu No. 4 in A flat            Franz Schubert
Liebestraume No. 3                      Franz Liszt
Transcendental Etude No. 8         Franz Liszt
Ballade No. 1                               Frederic Chopin
Prelude No. 24                             Frederic Chopin
Waltz No. 6 "Minute"                    Frederic Chopin
Waltz No. 7 Op. 64/2                   Frederic Chopin
Sonata No. 3 Op. 28                    Sergei Prokofiev

Here is the next program for Spring:

Sonata No. 5 in C minor              Ludwig van Beethoven
Sonata No. 3 in B minor              Frederic Chopin
Prelude No. 5, Op. 23                Sergei Rachmaninoff
Prelude No. 2, Op. 23                 Sergei Rachmaninoff
My favorite piano pieces - Liszt Sonata in B minor, Beethoven's Hammerklavier, Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit, Alkan's Op. 39 Etudes, Scriabin's Sonata-Fantaisie, Godowsky's Passacaglia in B minor.

Sounds absolutely lovely to me, but for balance should you not have 1 contmeporary piece and perhaps just a little from the 18th century (not including Bach transcriptions :o).

Admittedly, i wouldn't myself, but Just a thought.

An impressive program. I would play whatever you enjoy playing the most, irregarless of "balance".

Hello all,

I'm choosing a repertoire to perform around New Year's. This is what I came up with.

Partita No. 2 in C minor               Johann Sebastian Bach
Impromptu No. 4 in A flat            Franz Schubert

Waltz No. 7 Op. 64/2                   Frederic Chopin
Sonata No. 3 Op. 28                    Sergei Prokofiev

Here is the next program for Spring:

Sonata No. 5 in C minor              Ludwig van Beethoven
Sonata No. 3 in B minor              Frederic Chopin
Prelude No. 5, Op. 23                Sergei Rachmaninoff
Prelude No. 2, Op. 23                 Sergei Rachmaninoff

2nd program looks a bit thin, Max. Add something Barogue to the beginning, and throw in either Prokofiev, Scriabin or Barber near the end.

As for the first...it's actually very good. Just a single tweak: Save the Chopin Prelude for an encore. It's one of those powerful miniatures that I just don't think looks good by itself without any other preludes. It is, however, a great showpiece to save for the very end, so use it as an encore.
